Adepticon Best Army - Jim Wappel

Jim Wappel is one of the truly nice guys in the game and one of its most talented painters.  My girlfriend and I had a blast two years ago attending his basing class at Adepticon and you can see he knows his stuff by his AMAZING bases on his army.  His Grey Knight army is without doubt, the best army I have seen in my 3 years attending Adepticon.  Here are some photos for your enjoyment.

FLYERS! GW 2012 Release Schedule, 6th Edition, more.

Is there a wave of Flyers coming your way from GW?  I am not convinced, but a lot of good info from DrLove42 on BoLS, who  had this interesting summary of the 2012 GW Release Schedule on BoLS forum:

OK so I went to a comp last weekend (yesterday in fact :P).

At this I had a chat with a guy who until recently used to be a GW manager. He talked with me a bit about upcoming stuff.

Now I know this seems like the least credible source in history (better than my brothers friends sister works at a printing company though) but other people from the club he'd come from say hes usually been right about his rumours;

May
Next wave Necrons. Also a suprise wave of fliers (the DE Voidraven, Necron Fliers, an Ork Fightabomba and a aircraft for regular marines. Maybe stuff for other races wasn't sure)at the end of the month, with rules in WD

DA
Next Book.- Preorder at end of may for beginning on June release

6th Ed
End of June.

6th Ed starter box
Will not be released in the traditional pre-UK games day slot, and will likely be earlier (when he didn't say)
Chaos vs DA. DA includes 5 Ravenwing, 5 Deathwing, some Tac Marines and a Deathwing Commander.
Chaos includes some chosen, a sorceror and a boatload of cultists (He did say he didn't see a Dread - which is against every other rumour thus far I think - But he did admit only seeing some of the sprues- Sorceror also opens up possibilites of those plastic Plaguebearers we've heard about before)

Chaos
Will be before the box set, supposedly preorders up at the end of July.

Tau
November.

He claimed GW are trying to release 3 codexes and the main rule book this year, in addition to another fantasy book and the hobbit stuff, so releases may seem more closely packed than we're used to

As I said, credibiltiy seems laughable, but I believed him. Maybe that makes me an idiot. We'll just to wait and see.....

From other sources we have similar notes on the 6th Edition Boxed set.  Specifically:

Chaos

Cultists (10)
Possessed (5)
Chosen (5)
Sorcerer (1)

Dark Angels

Space Marines (10)
Terminators (5)

Bikes (3)
Terminator Captain

Of course take this all with a grain or two of salt.  The release schedule is very dense and that could change.  But it aligns with what we have heard from other sources.

Horus Heresy news from Graham McNeil & Christian Dunn

energongoodie from the BoLS forum was at Salute this past weekend.  It happened in the UK the same weekend as Adepticon in the USA.  Graham McNeil and Christain Dunn were there for The Black Library and energongodie chatted with them both.  Here is what he reported on BoLS on the forum there.

First up, Iron Hands stuff. These guys are my favourite so they were the focus of my questioning.

After the death of Ferrus Manus….. some Iron Hands turn renegade! Boom! Acoording to Christian Dunn, they start to think that if Ferrus was so easily manipulated and taken out then their faith in him was misplaced and they start to look to Horus as a symbol of strength and leadership.

Chaos Iron Hands = awesome.

I said that the story of how the Iron Hands deal with the death of their Primarch would be a great story. Boom! Mr Dunn told me not to worry. The story goes that the Legion becomes fractured and there are disparate groups of Iron Hands roaming the galaxy carrying out hit and run attacks on the traitor forces taking their revenge and kicking ***.

Now, here is where it gets interesting. It turns out there was an Iron Hand on Terra at the time of the Isstvan attack. He implied he was one of the crusader host from ‘The Outcast Dead’. Rogal Dorn gives this guy a mission. To go out into the galaxy and gather up the many elements of his Legion and bring them back to Terra to bolster the defences. However, when he meets his brothers he thinks maybe they are doing a more useful job out in space kicking traitor ***. Boom!

Then I asked about Ferrus Manus’ head. Weird question I know but I’m thinking if he has a bit of necron in him then maybe he isn’t really dead. He smiled at me and said they do have some plans for the head of Ferrus Manus! Boom! They are definitely not bringing him back but the head is gonna pop up again.

There is an upcoming audio drama. It is the story of the very first meeting between Maclador and the Emperor. Boom! I’m looking forward to some more Emperor action.

I asked Graham Mcneil about his upcoming stuff and he was very excited about what he was writing now, angel Exterminatus. It is a story with both the Emperors Children and the Iron Warriors. He said it started out as a story about the Emperors Children with an appearance from the Iron Warriors. But he was having such a good time writing about Perturabo that they have ended up taking over. He spoke about Perturabo at some length and how much of a craftsman he is and an artist but how he and his Legion get the dirty jobs of garrisoning worlds and don’t get the glory of the other Legions. This creates such a great bitterness in him that after the events on his home planet he has no real choice but to side with Horus. Graham McNeil was very excited about this story and if he can get that on to the page they we are in for a belter of a book.

Lastly I asked why there are no Wolves on Fenris? Mr McNeil smiled. I asked if they were, mutated Fenrisians, mutated Space Wolves or manifestations of the warp. He wouldn’t say. He just said that he and Dan Abnett have discussed it and the issue will be brought up again but I get the feeling it will never be definitively answered and we will always be left wondering.

Adepticon 40K Championship Results - Day 1

Well, Day 1 of Adepticon is down and it was a blast.  Friday was the 40K Championships qualifying rounds.  The final rounds happen Sunday.

Here are the top 16 players who qualified for Sunday.  Of course 7 are Grey Knights players.  Seems that this is the flavor of the year.

1	Alexsnder Fennell	Necrons	40	11	22
2	Tony Grippando	Grey Knights	40	11	22
3	Mike Mutscheller	Space Wolves	40	11	15
4	Justin Cook	Grey Knights	40	10	20
5	Bill Kim	Chaos Demons	40	10	19
6	Jose Mendez	Dark Angels	40	10	16
7	Joakim Engstrom	Grey Knights	40	9	15
8	Doug Johnston	Orks	40	9	14
9	Rickey Johnston	Orks	40	7	22	Dropped Out
10	Brett Perkins	Imperial Guard	40	6	20
11	Paul Murphy	Grey Knights	40	6	15
12	Tony Kopach	Space Wolves	35	11	19
13	Dave Ankarlo	Grey Knights	35	8	21
14	Brad Chester	Grey Knights	35	8	19
15	Nick Nanavati	Grey Knights	35	8	18
16	Reece Robbins	Eldar	35	8	18
17	Tim Gorham	Grey Knights	35	8	17	Alternate

What is most impressive is not that 7 of the top 16 are Grey Knights. Not too hard to win with them. Butthat a Necron player is first, two Ork players are in the top 10, and a Chaos Daemon player is FIFTH!

Winning with Chaos Daemons shows real skill.  Kudos to those players who did not jump on the Grey Knight band wagon.

Forgeworld New Releases - Apothecaries and Executioner!

More Space Marine goodness from our favorite plastic crack dealers.  These are both must haves in my book.  The Apothecaries are great characters which will add flavor to ones army, and the Predator can take a Conversion Beamer!  In Apocalypse, that is pure gold.

SPACE MARINE APOTHECARY SET

Among the many ranks and honours of the Adeptus Astartes, it is that of the Apothecary, perhaps, which holds the most respect for the import of his role. Well-versed in the arts of cybernetics, chirurgery and bioengineering required to transform a mortal aspirant into a post-human Angel of Death as well as battlefield aid, the Apothecary must also be a warrior of unquenchable bravery and might. If a battle-brother falls, it is the Apothecary that will tend his wounds so that he may return unto the conflict. If his wounds are too great, it is the Apothecary that will grant him the Emperor’s Peace and it is the Apothecary that will ensure the Chapter’s due is taken from the battle-brother’s flesh; removing and guarding the sacred progenoid organs that will be implanted into a new aspirant.

Designed by Mark Bedford, the Space Marine Apothecary Set contains two multi-part resin models, allowing you to build Apothecaries in MkII ‘Crusade’-pattern and MkIV ‘Maximus’-pattern power armour. Each is packed with detail, from the heraldry of the Apothecarion to the many stasis-flasks and medicae-systems borne into battle by these peerless warriors. The Space Marine Apothecary Set is available to pre-order now for despatch from 27th April.

DEIMOS PATTERN PREDATOR EXECUTIONER

One of the most prized, and almost lost, Predator tank patterns is the Deimos Pattern Predator Executioner, which mounts a rare Executioner-pattern Plasma Destroyer. This ancient and powerful weapon fires a series of sun-hot plasma blasts capable of incinerating flesh and blasting apart even power armour with contemptuous ease. Only the forge world of Ryza is still able to manufacture the advanced photo-plasmic cells needed for the Executioner weapon, so many chapters whose Techmarines have sufficient skill and knowledge replace the Plasma Cannon with a Heavy Conversion Beamer.

This turns the Predator Executioner into an extremely powerful siege unit and long-range tank destroyer, but this firepower is gained at the cost of manoeuvrability and increased vulnerability to short-ranged attacks. That such a modification carries a long-standing seal of remittance from the Adeptus Mechanicus speaks of cataclysmic battles in a forgotten age, in which such devastating firepower was more common, and more necessary. Designed by Will Hayes, the Deimos Pattern Predator Executioner is a multi-part resin and plastic kit containing two turret weapon options and two sponson weapon options. It is available to pre-order now for despatch from 27th April, and experimental rules for this vehicle are available to download here.

Adepticon Set-up and Webcast

Adepticon set-up day

 The calm before the storm

The volunteers setting up.

We arrived in Chicago last night, played a game at the Chicago Games Workshop Battle Bunker, and got to bed early (11:00) since this is probably the only night of good sleep we will get!  We have set up the live stream and are streaming now, though there is nothing to see really except the set-up.  We will be testing all day and recording some video.  We start live at 9am tomorrow morning.

Apocalypse40K will be web-casting Adepticon LIVE all three days of the event for 8-10 hours each day.  We will have guest hosts, interviews with gamers, sponsors and guests, and generally entertain you all weekend long while reporting on everything happening there.

You can view the webcast LIVE right here on Apocalypse40K.  And join in the live chat too.

40K Nation will be joining us and there will not only be live streaming, but videos on every aspect of Adepticon.  Apocalypse40K is the only live web-cast for Adepticon!

Waseer WTF?

Warseer just pisses me off.  If you don't know this forum, fine, you aren't missing anything.  Both Dakka Dakka and BoLS have way better forums.  But if you do go there, don't they just freaking piss you off?  I have had it with that forum and their dictatorial moderators who clearly have something very large up their arses (as the Brits say).  I don't know how many times I have had posts deleted with no explanation, and now, I get some power hungry moderator delete the post about web-casting Adepticon claiming it is "Advertising".  Meanwhile, over at Dakka Dakka, we have a nice little thread going where people have asked questions and given feedback.

You know, that is what a forum is for.  Especially a gaming forum where we are all trying to have fun and promote the hobby.  I am spending probably over $ 2,000 of my very own money to do the community a favor and promote gaming and Adepticon, the biggest and best gaming event in the world.  The least Warseer could do is allow me to promote it.  What maroons.

Dakka Dakka is the king of gaming forums, and all you need to do is check out their web statistics to know this.  Dakka has TWICE the unique visitors each month that Warseer does,  and almost a third of what Games Workshop itself gets.  Dakka is user friendlily, and even lets you have a signature image, unlike Warseer, which doesn't allow you to do anything of interest with your signature.  Basically, Warseer is so concerned about controlling the user experience, that they take all the fun out of it.  While Dakka, is cool, has great moderators who know how not to be assholes, and Jon, the guy who runs Dakka is a gamer who is a great guy.

(I should note that The Dude, who moderates the Warseer 40K rumor forum, is an awesome moderator, and basically rumors are the only reason to go to Warseer).

I run the Apocalypse40K forums, and I would welcome  someone posting about events like this.  Promoting the hobby is what we should all be doing more of.

So basically screw you Warseer.  In your attempt to control everything you just piss people off.  Occupy Warseer!  :-)

Ork Blasta Bomma II Scratchbuild

Ork masta builda Greg Teeuwen is at it again:

I was commissioned again to build an Ork Blasta Bomma. I had just completed one bomma (see here), then started this one.

I didn't want this bomma to look exactly the same as my own or the first commission bomma job, so I decided to get creative with the engines. I recently "inherited" a bunch of drag racing engines, blowers, exhausts and other bits, so I put them to good use. I also added a few grots and a lot of "junkiness" for character and flavor (there's even landing gear!)

More when Greg paints this baby!

Dark Angels Rumors - The White Dwarf Mystery

Well, you have to be living under an asteroid to not know that Games Workshop has been putting a mystery image on the spine of White Dwarf the past four months.  Well, it isn't so much of a mystery, as it has become clear it is a new Dark Angel image.

Each month we have gotten another sliver.  It appears to be halfway there.  It is clearly a Dark Angel, which meshes with all the DA rumors we have been hearing.

Well, the other day I got another confirmation that this is a countdown to the Dark Angels release.  Since we need 4-5 more slivers to make a complete image, we are looking at an July/August release for the First Legion, which would make sense as we then would see an August/September 6th edition 40K release.

Take it with a does of salt.  But that is what the Imperial Operatives have been saying.
