First: I really want that figure!!!! I'm registered and it's awesome....
Second: Could this be an elaborate hoax? I dunno...It has all the signs; conveniently leaked photos, link to FW not GW, the buzz of another SM flyer in the works that EVERYONE can use...If you look at it from outside the blogosphere realms, there is that possibility. FW and GW both have the wherewithall and know-how to pull something like this off. Just because they "haven't" pulled something like this in the past, doesn't mean they "couldn't or wouldn't"....If it's a hoax, no real harm done; just got a bunch of enthusiasts across the globe all excited and fluttery. I was reading through the new WD today with narry a mention of any new flyer. GW has their hands full of new Empire releases and paints. FW just released a new monster compendium and new "items" for 40K already this week. I truthfully find it hard to believe that they are releasing something new again for the general public so close to their prime event in England.
Just thoughts, don't swallow this rumor and pix whole.
YThe more and more I look over the picture the less I'm convinced its a scratch, if it is its a really really good scratch build. But who's to say for sure. The timing is suspect, but that's really all .
I have seen things pop up on the FW site as a look what in the works, that never made it to production.. (think it was a cargo pod for the Thawk transporter, way back in 2009ish)
My hope... is its a kit/upgrade based around all the heresy era stuff they have put out recently.
And lokan makes a good point gw. Has never blatantly mislead its customers for the april fools joke. Add that to FW has never done it.
But I could be wrong...
Aye - I'm more or less convinced it's a very well made scratch build (though I sincerely hope it's a production kit, and would buy one in a heartbeat). Comparing the picture to an un-built Storm Raven, it appears that really all that's being used from the kit is the top/front plate and the wings. That seems like a surprisingly small amount of the plastic kit to be considered an 'upgrade'. If it turns out that it's merely a scratch build, bravo to the builder. It looks great!
If anything the 80 pound price tag is the joke. "April Fools, it's actually one hundred and eighty pounds!" :)
I realized what's bugging me about the model, it's not grim-dark enough. There are no large glaring skulls or racks of incense or tattered purity seals. The lines are all very clean and the whole thing looks very sci-fi.
I'd wager it's a joke. The layout of the page isn't like a normal FW item and its name is already taken. We already have Stormeagle rockets in the 40k universe. I doubt they'd reuse the name as there's no precedence for them doing so.
And to the folks who note that FW has never done an April Fool's joke, everything's impossible until it happens. :)
* FW have referenced the Stormeagle transport in the Badab War books.
* A few months ago they said they would be showing of a big new Space Marine vehicle at the open day (this sunday)
* The rocket launchers on the top are the same as the wing mounted launchers on the FW Caesus Assault Ram
* The page format is the same as for the Model Master Class book and Predator they anounced yeasterday. They dont have a normal page because they arent even available for pre-order yet.
* The price seems about right compared to the Land Raider conversion kits.
I think its real.
I'm going for real -- meant to be revealed at the open day this sunday, but prematurely disclosed on the web.
Just confirmed as real via e-mail from Forgeworld.
Woo-hoo! I just got the email as well. That's fantastic news, really quite glad it isn't just an April Fools joke! I'm definitely in for one for use with my upcoming Heresy-era World Eaters. Awesome!
I as well received the email and happy to have my doubts eliminated.
Can't wait to get a few... someday...maybe in this lifetime...anyway lots of other cool stuff on the horizon from gw and forgeworld but I'm sworn to silence...
