Horus Heresy "Betrayal" Rumors

The ever vigilante Stickmonkey, posted these Horus Heresy rumors.

Still to come from Betrayal:
Primarchs:
Horus
Fulgrim
Mortarion

Legion specific characters, aka Abaddon, Garviel, Crysos, etc... At last count I believe there are 8 or 9 in the works...

Legion specific units, aka DeathShroud, ravages, etc. I believe there are still 3 to be released.

Legion badged contemptors for Sons of Horus and Emporer's Children
Mecanicum HQ

Mecanicum units, I believe there are 2 to be released
Heresy era Vindicator

Heresy era land speeders

Mk ii/iii special weapons kit

Rotor cannon kit (there are iirc 4 or 5 kits due that contain 5 weapons and an augury)

Destroyer squad upgrade kit

Rapier platform kits, there are iirc 2 more rapier platform kits coming
Praetor kit in Tartaros armor

Centurion kits ( there are 2 more 2 packs I'm aware of, but I believe there may be more coming. I think the Moritat and Forgelord are up soon, next in line for the centurion releases that is, not next as in tomorrow). And I think vigilant and chaplain are the other set.
For tomorrow, I'm expecting the mk II special weapons kit similar to last weeks mk Iv set. This has some identical bits, mk ii assault arms, the older style hand flamers with the funnel barrels and a load of other weapons and bits.

And I believe it's tomorrow the death shroud are up for pre-order.

Next week I am expecting something big...

And another Primarch is supposed to be unveiled in Jan...

Thanks as always to the best rumor monger out there...Stickmonkey!

Norway Joins The Big Game III

This March 16th, The Big Game III - The World's Biggest Apocalypse Game, will happen all over the world.  And your club can participate!

New Black Library Novel Ahriman: Exile Released.

A new Chaos Space Marine novel by John French is being released as an enovel 6 months before the print version.

THE STORY

All is dust... Spurned by his former brothers and his father Magnus the Red, Ahriman is a wanderer, a sorcerer of Tzeentch whose actions condemned an entire Legion to an eternity of damnation. Once a vaunted servant of the Thousand Sons, he is now an outcast, a renegade who resides in the Eye of Terror. Ever scheming, he plots his return to power and the destruction of his enemies, an architect of fate and master of the warp.

John French on Ahriman: Exile

When I got the green light to write Ahriman: Exile, I had two, quite opposite reactions in the space of
about twenty seconds.

'Oh wow, I get to write about Ahriman. He’s one of Warhammer 40,000’s most pivotal characters. The sorcerer who literally made the Thousands Sons what they now are, and who one day will try and break into the Black Library itself.'

Swiftly followed by:

'Oh my. I’m writing Ahriman. Every Warhammer 40,000 fan in the world has an idea of how he should be portrayed. He’s the sorcerer star of Graham McNeill’s super successful A Thousand Sons. Right, no pressure then…'

Thankfully, my child-like excitement won out, and along with the occasional harsh stare from the Ahriman miniature on my desk, saw me through the book.  Ahriman: Exile is, at its core, a character piece. It chronicles the start of Ahriman’s journey from his banishment from the Planet of the Sorcerers to the character we’ve all come to know. It sheds light on his choices, his motivations, and the events that shaped his life following the Rubric.

Of course, it’s also a book about genetically enhanced warriors wielding reality breaking psychic powers. Throughout the book, battle occurs not only in the physical realm but also on another, ethereal level. Ahriman moves through a world alive with sensations that are invisible to most others, which gave me a great opportunity to explore some pretty exciting territory. How do you actually show a battle that occurs at the speed of thought alongside bolter fire and the clash of blades? How does someone who can feel possible futures fight with a sword? What is the inside of Ahriman’s mind like?

These questions are what make Ahriman such a complex character. He’s intelligent beyond most human’s comprehension, so powerful that it is easier to say what he can’t do than what he can, but also deeply flawed – a potent combination and one that was a lot of fun to write.

Ultimately, Ahriman: Exile is a book about war, hubris, hope, and guilt and how Ahriman rises from the ashes of banishment and disaster.

And after that, what then?  Well, we will have to see, but perhaps the best answer I can give is to echo line from a character in the book: What then? War. A war against fate.

You can buy the enovel for $ 7.99 now on the Black Library website.

Being a huge fan of A Thousand Sons by Graham McNeil, I can't wait to read this book.

Forge World to release Deathshroud Terminators

From Forgeworld:

The new Forge World Christmas surprise was finally revealed and it is a Deathshroud Terminator.  The Deathshround are the elite bodyguard unit of senior Death Guard Legion members and Mortarion.  Composed of the toughest individuals in the Legion, often the literal "sole survivors" of various unit actions, these marines are inducted into the bodyguard for their dedication and sheer toughness.
They are 2 wound terminators with a powerscythe, and hand flamer (with Gets Hot!, and Shred).  Just try to charge em! They have a unit size of 3-10 and are always scoring, even though they are Elites.

I love the fact that we are getting more and more infantry from Forge World.  We really are going to be able to build unique Heresy era Legion armies.

Black Library Hardcover Shipping Issues

I have many passions.  40K and Apocalypse and the Horus Heresy in particular is a big one.  I collect comics and have the third ranked silver age Captain America collection in the country, all graded CGC 9.6 or higher.  I also have a big collection of screen used Star Trek props and costumes (I even recently bought the full sized Galileo Shuttlecraft set with a friend and we are restoring it to donate to a museum).  So I am a huge geek and proud of it.  And one of my most important collections is my book collection.  It isn't huge, but I have first editions of most of my favorite books, including a pristine first edition of the limited "Horus Rising" hardcover from 5 years ago.

I have been buying the limited edition Horus Heresy books and so when The Black Library decided to release all the Horus Heresy books in hardcover over time, I was excited to add them to my collection.  Then I got the first four editions.

The books were merely thrown in a cardboard box with no packing materials other than a single inflatable spacer.  They were bouncing about in the box all the way from England and of course the dust jackets were ruined.  Now, if you are going to sell hard cover books for collectors, you better get used to the idea that we all want our books in excellent condition.  We don't want books that look like they have been in a used book store for 20 years.

And Black Library knows how to do this as they do a great job with their limited edition books, which are shrink wrapped and packed in purpose-built boxes.

So I contacted The Black Library and I got a nice email from Black Library customer service saying they appreciated my photos and were addressing the problem.  They were going to ship out new books as well.  Stay tuned for updates.

Does anyone buy the hardcovers that doesn't actually care about the condition of the dust jacket?

IG, Jes Goodwin and the 2013 Release Schedule

Larry over on BoLS posted this as the 2013 GW Release Schedule:

JAN: Dark Angels
FEB: Daemons
MAR: Wave month (hobbit, warriors of chaos, 40k)
APR: High Elves
MAY: Tau
JUN: Summer wave (40k, supplement book for 40k)
JUL: Lizardmen
AUG: Mystery Box
SEP: Wave month
OCT: ???
NOV: Eldar
DEC: ???

Now, as usual, these things tend to get more speculative as you go outwards in time, but overall these line up with what we've been hearing from a variety of chatter.  We've been hearing for a while that the "Mystery Box" is a fully revamped Blood Bowl.

And Max over at Darog's Company posted this:

New Imperial Guard by Jes Goodwin:
Wolfen from  LA TABERNA DE LAURANA:

It´s only an early rumour, but seems that Jes Goodwin in a chat talk spoiled this picture of his now early works on the new and future Imperial guard codex..

Horus Heresy Visions to be Reprinted

The Black Library will be re-releasing "Visions of Heresy", the book which was the basis for all the Horus Heresy fluff and was written by Alan Merrett, the supreme overlord of 40K fluff.

From The Black Library:

From the ashes of the Great Crusade, treachery was born. Always first among the superhuman primarchs, the newly dubbed Warmaster Horus turned his back upon the Emperor and embraced the dark powers of Chaos. With fully half the military might of the fledgling Imperium at his command, he set his sights upon the throne of Holy Terra and waged a war which would divide the galaxy forever...Visions of war, visions of darkness, of treachery and death - all of this and more is contained within this heretical volume. Iconic depictions of the Space Marine Legions and the heroes that commanded them are presented alongside artwork from renowned artists Neil Robert, as well as brand new historical notes on the Warhammer 40,000 universe by Alan Merrett. Witness the end of an era and the beginning of something far darker, as the Heresy continues to unfold.

The book was originally issued in 4 oversized paperbacks.  It was then collected in one large book (and a very limited edition leather bound, slip-cased edition).  The collected Visions had one of the worst designed dust jackets ever, and needs a good update, so this will be welcome.

The book is due next June.

Have you bought this book previously?  What are your thoughts?

Ork Mega-Apocalypse Battle in L.A.

When Greg Teeuwen and I put on a game, we go all out, including serious marketing.  Here is the flyer the always talented game girl geek Damaris Degen, put together for our January 26th game which Greg is running.  Orks vs. the universe!

Hannibel's Orks next to Tayla Wren's Gargant.

In Southern California, we have some big Ork Apocalypse armies.  Greg, Senobio Aguilera and David Ashworth all have 20,000 points each and a huge airforce.    Hannibel Sanchez and his son have an AMAZING force as well, seen above.  They were dominant at last year's The Big Game II.

Da Big Bomma himself, Greg Teeuwen, with his famous Ork Carrier.

So if you live in SoCal, come stomp some Orks (or get run over by the Green Tide) on Saturday, January 26th, 2013 at the L.A. Games Workshop Battle Bunker.
