GW Aerial Assault Videos

While the Games Workshop videos tend to be a bit static and lack imagination, they still show a lot of detail and views of the models.  Worth a look.

GW Price Increase - What's the truth?

Well, when I stepped into the Los Angeles LA Battle Bunker yesterday, one of the employees who is a regular reader of this blog told me what was really going on with the GW Price increase.  And here is the deal:

30% of GW products will go up 4%.  That is all.  No huge price increases.  No 60% price increase like some other blog reported.  A pretty mild price increase as far as that goes.

Also, in case you haven't heard, Games Workshop Stores will be pulling all 5th edition rules books off the shelves, which means we will see 6th edition next month!  Here it comes folks.

The rumor mill has a few interesting tidbits:

1)  No more random game length.

2)  The ability to "buy" terrain.  So you can actually get stuff that will help your army.

3)  Flamers can set certain terrain on fire...something hat lasts through turns!

More information as we get it.

Countdown to the new Lord Inquisitor Trailer

From the team at The Lord Inquisitor:
As you might have read on Facebook the teaser is completely finished from the visual side:) I got the latest track from Adam recieved and it sounds amazing as always:) We found some things that could be improved tho and he will change this in the next days. So it is really close to be finishid and I assume that the teaser will be available on sunday evening. I think you will like it, it is really short but it has a nice 40k heroic feeling:) Ok maybe the chaos player won’t like it then haha – it is just about Torquemada as I wrote earlier. Mainly just because I completely remodeled him as you might know;) So stay tuned, on sunday it will be finally online:)

Other than that my new job here is really awesome, I met a lot of new people and already learned a lot:) In fact, with the tasks I am assigned now at work I think I couldn’t be happier, it is absolutely what I wanted to do and so I am very motivated.  Frankfurt is also a nice town, many skyscrapers and stuff – I love those views:) What will be diffucult is to find my new appartment, I was told it is like war here in Frankfurt. Also a bit like a casting show.  Right now I live in a company appartment which is nice but I only got my notebook here… and the HDD with the Lordi project on it. If this gets broken don’t worry, I have a complete copy at my old home:) So you remember my old nice work studio? Right now it looks like this here in Frankfurt:)

For all you Yanks have a super Memorial Day Weekend and thank a veteran!  I will be posting all weekend so check back every morning.

GW Price Increases coming again!

Well, it is that time of year and we are bracing for another Games Workshop price increase.  Rumors are a 4% across the board increase, but other retailers have said the price increase is 5-20%.  Here are two examples which would, frankly, be SHOCKING.

$ 82 for a Stormraven
$ 75 for a Land Raider

Now I was just paying $ 50 for a Land Raider two years ago.  You mean to tell me they will rise 50% in just two years?  A Stormraven is That is ludicrous.  With inflation so low to be almost non-existant, there is no justification for these price increases.  And while I readily admit to being a GW fanboy, I can't justify these constant, excessive price increases.  There is no macro-economic justification for this.  In addition, there is a real economic impact on GW.  And it means the hobby is more expensive and will thus attract less new people.

The simple fact that a start box has risen from $ 50 to $ 100 in the past 4 years shows you that there are some serious strategic decisions that are being, IMHO, mishandled.  It is EASY to sell a parent or kid a $ 50 boxed set, especially one with so much value as Assault on Black Reach.  But ask them for $ 100 and you have made an easy impulse purchase into a major decision.

Now take gamers and ask them to start spending $ 82 on a Stormraven?  That is a huge chunk of change.  And almost every gamer I know has changed their buying habits in some way  They have:

1)  Started buying from discounters.

2)  Have cut back in their purchases.

3)  Slowed the rate of their purchases.

4)  Limited impulse purchases.

Now I have done ALL FOUR.  Being single and with no kids, I have more disposable income than most.  But I have slowed way down because of the price increases.  Even my Forgeworld orders have slowed down, because they release so much stuff!

Well, those are my thoughts.  What are yours?

New Mega-Apocalypse Event...Apocalypticon!

Apocalypti-con is a new mega-Apocalypse event that is based in Toronto, Canada and trying to grow to be included with the big games like Siegeworld, Apoc-Eclipse of The Big Game.
From their website:

Our goal is simple - we run the biggest Warhammer 40k Apocalypse game that we possibly can, for maximum carnage and maximum fun.

In our first Apocalypticon in 2010 we had 80,000 points. In 2011 we had 250,000 points. This year we're going even bigger.

Event Details

When: Friday, August 10th, 2012 to Saturday, August 11th, 2012

Where:
Hamilton, Ontario (Click here for directions)

The Friday night will start at 5pm and end at 9pm. The Saturday will go from 8:30am until we finish. Last year we finished at 5pm, but be prepared to stay as late as 9pm in case it takes longer.

  • The miniatures must be from the same army. Space Marine Chapters can be combined. Imperial Guard and Space Marines can be combined. Chaos Daemons and Chaos Space Marines can be combined.

Flyers in New White Dwarf!

This week's White Dwarf has photos galore on the new Flyers.  Thanks to Blood of Kittens for breaking this.

Space Marine StormTalon Gunship

Ork Flyers

Necron Flyers

I have to say that the Space marine Stormtalon doesn't do it for me.  The Ork flyer is awesome and can be made in 3 variations.  The Necron Doom Scythe and Night Scythe kit is what we expected.

I am sure I will buy 6 Stormtalons for Apocalypse anyway.

Flyers Coming June 1st!

Well, the Flyers are coming!  And only about a year late.  After last year's "Summer of Flyers" rumor fizzeled, we now get the long rumored flyers from Games Workshop:

Space Marine Stormtalon Gunship $45.50
Necron Night Scythe/Doom Scythe $45.50
Ork Bommer $45.50

Once again, here is what the rules are supposed to be.

Space Marine Stormtalon Gunship 130pts

BS 4
11/11/11
Supersonic
Aerial Assault
Ceramine Plating
Escort Craft - Attach the Storm Talon to a unit in reserves to deep strike, and it automatically arrives from reserve 6" away from the deep striking unit

Twin-linked heavy bolters, can upgrade to twin-linked Lascannon

As they are in their codex.  We assume that one kit makes both variations.

Twin-linked Dakka Guns
Aerial Assault
Supersonic
Waaagh! plane - can fire twice in the turn you call Waaagh!

Fighta Ace upgrade - BS 3 against everything

Ork Burna Bomma

Chapterhouse Studios Releases Attack Bike

Chapterhouse Studios has just released the Attack bike version of their Javelin Class Jet Bike.  It comes with both Heavy Bolter and Multi-Melta options.  As always, check out Chapterhouse Studios website.

From Chapterhouse Studios:

This multi-part customizable resin kit contains 21 resin components. This set includes our standard Javelin Jet Bike kit as well as 12 new components to upgrade it to an "attack" variant - the Pilum Jet Bike.  Two side mounted weapon options are included - our Heavy Bolt Gun and a Heavy Melta Gun.  This kit is specifically designed to allow the two heavy weapon options to be magnetized and this kit includes 6 magnets as well.

We also included 2 different bolt gun mounts that will allow the addition of different special weapons (plasma, melta, grenade launchers etc).  These conveniently fit our combi-weapon conversion bits.

Also included in the kit are a set of legs and arms that will allow you to use other companies torsos and heads to model an armored rider.  Flight stand will be included.  Please note the peg hole is sized for Games Workshops flight bases, in order to use our bases you will have to widen the holes diameter slightly.

(Riders Shoulder Pads, Torso and Head not included and sold seperately)

GW New Releases - Direct Order Only. WTF?

So I go to the Games Workshop Los Angeles Battle Bunker yesterday for our big Imperial vs. Ork Apocalypse Game.  And being that it was May 19th, the day GW was releasing their big slate of Space Marine Finecast, I was prepared to spend a hundred dollars or so for some cool models.  Then I discover that all the new Finecast models are DIRECT ONLY.  Meaning you have to buy them on the Games Workshop Warhammer 40,0000 New Releases page.

Now that makes no sense to me.  Important Space Marine models that you are trying to sell tons of and you are only able to get them by ordering direct?  That just makes no sense.  I seriously believe that Games Workshop doesn't get the whole idea of the impulse purchase.  Veteran gamers like all my buddies and I WANT to spend money on cool models. We will walk in the Battle Bunker and look for stuff to buy and add to our armies.  But Games Workshop is taking that away and it hurts THEM, not me.  Because with no impulse purchases, I will be much more clinical about what I buy.  I have to go online to buy and that means I think about it a lot.  NO impulse purchase.

I am not one of those people who disses GW at every turn.  I love the company.  But frankly, sometimes their policies make no sense.  And this is one.  I want these models in my store so I can pick them up, see them and have stuff to buy whenever I walk in the store.

Now we can await the price increases I guess.
