Warhammer Visions / White Dwarf Video Review

A video review of the new White Dwarf and Warhammer Visions.

OK, the guy is annoying to listen to at times (move it on buddy) but the review is pretty good.  There are a lot of problems with Warhammer Visions.  Almost no text (and what there is is repeated in French and German), a bad layout and a SMALLER size than White Dwarf!  WTF???

So it actually looks like White Dwarf weekly is way more interesting that Warhammer Visions, which frankly, looks awful.  I am not impressed.  My initial take on these magazines is now reversed.  I doubt I will buy Visions, but look forward to White Dwarf Weekly.

I don't know, Warhammer Visions is pretty much exactly what I'd been lead to expect.

Wow. Dodged a bullet there. My last month of subscription runs out on the first edition of Visions - I don't think this will be selling much at all. And "Weekly" without a subscription offer is simply to force people in store... not the right way to do it.

Actually David Weekly White Dwarf won't just be available in GW stores, it'll be sold at your local non GW game store, as well as their website so you don't have to get your feet dirty going into a GW store.

Honestly... I'm not surprised at all by this, they didn't exactly make the contents a huge secret, they made it clear visions was going to be a monthly hobby showcase and WD Weekly was going to be more about new releases, rules previews, columns, building, painting, playing, etc...

That's why the WD Weekly is going to be amazing, it's 4 bucks, you get what you want out of it without a bunch of crap in the middle, it's not quite what it was back in the 80's and 90's but it's better than the last format, and cheaper, and of course you don't have to buy all of them that month, just what's relevant to your interest.

overreacting without seeing the content does nothing except make you feel silly that you slammed it so much before even giving it a chance.

Just calm down once and a while...

Didn't,t you watch the video. There is nothing to wait and see. It's a 10 minute read. I now wish I hadn't bought an iPad and whitedwarf sub for Christmas!

Personally I'm more excited by visions than the weekly edition as I'm more of a painter/modeler than a gamer and it'll make an excellent coffee table book of inspiration, I look forward to taking a look.

As for the layout being poor, I completely disagree. There's absolutely nothing wrong with rotating the images to attain the largest image size without spreading it across two pages and therefore losing detail in the crease and the overall look and feel of it screams quality to me.

Why you'd want more text on the pics is beyond me as well, they made it clear that wasn't what this publication was about before hand and that the hobby related articles and so on will be in the weekly edition.

I for one look forward to the change.

Thank you for posting a link to this. I've been dubious about Visions from the start, because its never been made particularly clear just what it would be - some said pictures only, others made it out to be White Dwarf with a different name - so getting a look at it without spending £7.50 is great.

In response to Ben, they may have made it clear that this publication was only going to be a showcase of painted models, but they also on their own website described it as a 'hobby extravaganza', which, as the hobby is more than painting and collecting, it clearly isn't. Not only that, but it's not what I was subscribing to back in September when I subscribed to White Dwarf Monthly. Whatever your views on the quality of the articles in old White Dwarf, there were at least articles in it, something which is completely lacking in Visions. It is completely devoid of anything that could be called hobby content of any hobby other than painting, and even the painting offers no tips or insights into techniques to improve your painting ability.

Cool video - real shame they had to go and change it (I really get the feeling that we're being conned a lot of the time atm) Want another point of view? Head over to Citadel of Paint (http://citadelofpaint.blogspot.co.uk/) to read Crodon's review of the new publications (http://citadelofpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/the-white-dwarf-is-dead.html) and more...
