Puppets War Releases Flyer

Puppets War continues to put out amazing models that fit perfectly into 40K.

The Dragonfly aircraft is an awesome multi-part kit which includes 27 components.  Made for 35mm tabletop wargames scale (300mm length from front to tail, and wingspan of about 260mm). It retails for a very reasonable $ 40.

Looks like it could lift a Rhino, but I wish this was more of a Storm raven/Storm Eagle analog and could carry troops.

Knowing Puppets War they will come out with variations.

The Horus Heresy, "Dark Heart" Short Story Released

The Black Library has released its latest Horus Heresy work and this time it is a short story in eBook form.  It only costs $ 2.99, and is available on The Black Library website.

From The Black Library:

When the Word Bearers launched their surprise assault on Calth, it marked the beginning of their righteous campaign of vengeance against the hated Ultramarines Legion. But for one young acolyte of Kor Phaeron, it is not the sons of Guilliman that he seeks to bring low - through infernal pacts and daemonic power he strives to carve out a destiny for himself in the midst of the greatest war that the galaxy has ever seen. The name of Marduk shall be spoken with awe for millennia still to come...

I will pretty much buy anything from The Horus Heresy series.  Absolutely the best 40K books out there.

GW profits Up, CEO Mark Wells Resigns.

Two big pieces of news.  First, Mark Wells, the CEO for the last 5 years, has resigned.  This is big news as Wells oversaw a number of the biggest changes in GW over that time, namely the move to one man stores and rapid prices increases of up to 50%.

From Games Workshop:

Games Workshop announces that after five years of outstanding service Mark Wells is stepping down as CEO.  He leaves on good terms and with our very best wishes.

The board will be seeking to appoint a new CEO in due course.  In the meantime, our Chairman, Tom Kirby, will be Acting CEO and Chairman.

Also, Games Workshop released its half yearly results.

HIGHLIGHTS

Revenue          £67.5m (2012)    £62.7m (2011)

Pre-tax profit  £11.1m (2012)     £9.5m  (2011)

"For Games Workshop to continue to be successful, we need motivated, hard-working managers in all parts of the business who understand Games Workshop’s niche business model, who are aligned with its values and behaviours and are committed to getting things done. The biggest risk for Games Workshop is not having enough of these managers to continue to grow the business globally. This risk is being mitigated by recruiting people who fit with our culture, developing them to fulfil their potential and training them with the skills we need."

More on this later this week.

Forge World New Releases - Zone Mortalis

Zone Mortalis takes up the new release spots today.  And while I don't know anyone who actually plays this way, I give Forge World an A for effort.

From Forge World:

The cities and starships of the Imperium are often ancient and crumbing edifices, constructed in ages past from prefabricated STC designs from the Dark Age of Technology. In a galaxy beset by war any building or corridor may be pressed into service as a strongpoint. Abrupt corners and shadowed alcoves typify the interior workspaces, while the narrow corridors and indeed larger internal rooms can be sealed off by great plasteel blast doors.  To see our video of Zone Mortalis click here.
The tile measures 1' x 1' (300mm x 300mm) and is fully compatible with the other tiles in the Zone Mortalis range. These tiles use hollow resin, which allows us to produce highly detailed, light and very durable scenery pieces. Due to the casting process of this material, it is sometimes possible to find small air bubbles on these terrain pieces. These are easy to fill as our Working with Resin guide explains.

Model designed by Blake Spence. Available to pre-order now for despatch from the 25th of January.

FAQ Imminent?

This surfaced in an update made available yesterday.

With a clarification to the transport rule in the digital version of Codex Necrons, it seems a new FAQ could be on the way. We can now see that units embarked in a Night Scythe that is destroyed now take no damage. This change appeared yesterday, but has yet to work it's way to the FAQ. Keep an eye out for updates, soon.

Forge World New Releases - Cerebus and Death Guard Terminators

The latest from Forge World is out and it is more Horus Heresy.  Both are great kits.  We get one vehicle and another Legion Terminator kit.

From Forge World:

Space Marine Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer

An experimental variant tank, the Mechanicum used the Spartan’s internal capacity to mount a prototype Neutron Laser Projector and the sizeable atomantic arc-reactors and rad-shielding needed to operate this devastating weapon. The Neutron Laser Projector had been retro-engineered from Dark Age technology recovered at great cost by Mechanicum Explorators, and some controversy was evident over both its provenance and safety for wider dissemination.

Despite this, the Lords of Mars ruled that the new tank, codified the Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer, should be delivered into the service of the Legiones Astartes for battlefield testing. The Neutron Laser, they believed, offered a more compact alternative to the great Turbo-Lasers used by Titans and the mighty Shadowsword, with a greater potential for collateral damage. It would not be long, however, before the Cerberus was called upon to turn its destructive capacity against the Imperium’s own...

Designed by Phil Stutcinskas, the Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer is a finely-detailed, multi-part resin kit. Rules for fielding this potent war machine alongside a Space Marine Legion force can be found in The Horus Heresy Book One: Betrayal. Available to pre-order now for despatch from the 25th of January.

Death Guard Legion Deathshroud Terminators

An elite cadre of warriors within the XIV Legion, the Deathshrouds were chosen by the Primarch Mortarion for their skill at arms, their fearlessness and their proven endurance. They were often selected from Death Guard legionaries who had survived where their comrades had fallen, each clad in bronze-chased Terminator plate, and armed with a power scythe and the alchem-munitions for which the Death Guard Legion were so darkly famed.

The Deathshrouds formed a silent bodyguard for Mortarion and his senior commanders, and in peace or war alike it was said that at least two of their number remained within forty-nine paces of their Primarch at any time. The Deathshroud Terminators kit, designed by Will Hayes, contains five finely detailed multi-part resin models. Each features a wealth of iconography, and the kit is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 25th January. Rules for using squads of Deathshroud Terminators in a Death Guard Legion force can be found in The Horus Heresy Book One: Betrayal.
