I agree with that, but I'm sticking with that 4th ed Codex over the vanilla marine Codex.
Don't you mean "The Sprue that IS in the 40k Starter Paint set"? I really hope that the Starter Set has a better molded set of Tactical Marines. The ones in the paint set have some bad sculpts on the Shoulders and the Gun is kind of fiddly get attached.
So I'm still learning as I just started paying attention to this hobby a few months ago. I was amazed at the high price of White Dwarf for what is essentially a catalog. However if they publish errata and updates in it, that changes it (slightly) and doesn't make me think it's a complete rip off, just a partial one :)
I had a lot of success with the 4th ed. Blood Angels WD mini-dex.
I have a gazillion shoulder pads in my bits box. I'm just thrilled that they aren't pre-attached like the AoBR set. And look at those guns and backpacks. I like the aquilla on the sides of the guns and the skulls on the backpacks look great! :D
The shoulder pads in the paint set are a solid corner and not at all like the replacement shoulders available from everyone. The body of the marine has a 90deg cut out where the DA shoulder glues in place.
Again I hope that the Beginner's box (Assault on Black Reach etc) replacement has better marines in it than the paint set does.
Dang. I didn't look at it right. Well, I'll second your sentiments with a hope that it'll be universal. Split several AoBR sets with friends, they'll lose out if they don't do it that way again.
It's in the starter paint set, seen 'em. It strikes me like everything else GW does now to hype up the "next big thing"...a lotta blow, not a lotta show. If these are considered precursors for the new boxed 40K sets, maybe I'll grab those ABR sets before they disappear...There had better be something absolutely spectacular in that box to justify $100+ USD for mini rules and figures...
Huh, hoping they don't really mess up the DA... But at this point I have very little faith about that...
There were a few (not many) interesting wrinkles in the previous Dark Angel codex. The problem came about when most of the unique features were also added into the core codex. Took away their originality. I hope that if they are in the new starter set the two forces are on different sprues. I also play orks and would gladly buy the Black Reach Ork sprues if available as filler for green tide forces and the only way to get deff koptas. Very short sighted on those sprues. Give me three distinct sprue: force 1, force 2, and scenery. I bet a lot of people would buy the crashed aircraft and assorted pieces from fourth edition -- especially new players. Great piece of scenery to build missions and/or scenarios around that is lost to new players. Hopefully the paintset sprue is a hint of what is to come. A lot of development work goes into a sprue. It is a shame that some are so short lived when they could be around for some time.
I only played Dark Angels, and with the lackluster love for them since 4th edition I had to take a break. Been on one for about a year just repainting some pieces and tweaking my units. Was tired of getting my butt kicked repeatedly with having no chance against alot of the newer factions. But but with the new rules and codex I am hoping they will finally be able to compete again.
Doug- if you're after specific AoBR sprues jump on eBay- they sell them separate or in packs, and ridiculously cheap
