Space Marine AA Tank

Here is a recap of the new Space Marine AA Tank, that will be the bane of opposition air forces!

Stalker / Hunter

Dual-kit AA tank

AV 12/12/10

Hunter/Stalker are both armed with S:7 weapons

Stalker - heavy 4

Hunter - heavy 1. The Hunter's weapon is AP:2 Armorbane.

Stalker is the one with dual 3-barrel autocannon-like guns, it also has a radar dish

Supposedly rapid-firing AA (Like SM version of IG Hydra?)

It is not twin-link! It hasTWO SEPARATE guns that are able to shoot at TWO SEPARATE targets.

The Model:

- lots of new parts, side armor is massive and has some kind of pistons that seem to be pinning it to the ground

- front plate is also different from other vehicles on Rhino-chassis: Stalker / Hunter has one that looks a bit Heresy-era with a “bumper” that looks similarly to the one Landspeeder has (that belt-of-cubes bumper thing)

Well, I will be buying 6 of these!

It doesn't have interceptor, right? I won't be buying any of these...

I know GW want ground based anti flyer units to be skyfire only to stop the trend of peeps fielding 9 hydras in a Guard army and shooting anything but flyers but it’s a bit too situational for me, there are hardly any flyers in my gaming group and until I’m sure Marines can hold up in a tournament setting I won’t be jumping the gun.

Loken,
Which unit is the AA unit in the recent Dark Angel codex? It seems to me it has none yet. You reckon this will be added to the DA codex in due time?

And without Interceptor, Flyers will always alpha strike your AA units.
Vendettas will shoot up these AA tanks, Baledrakes will flame Devs with Flakk

True AA vehicles rarely last long enough to do anything these days.

My skyrays have yet to fail me. Av13 with a 4+ lasts well enough.

It wasn't an uber-dreadnought that was rumored, Azza. It was a mini-dreadnoght. That's the Centurions.

It doesn't have Interceptor, which makes it 100 percent situational. Unless its dirt cheap, or has some other rule that lets it choose between air and ground targets, this model will probably not be selling well.

Might be a silly question, but when it says Heavy 4 and that they're two separate weapons, and that it CAN shoot at 2 targets (not necessarily must), does that mean that this vehicle is essentially Heavy 8 at S7, are are people thinking Heavy 4, split 2 and 2 if you're shooting at two targets?

Do we know for a fact that it does not have interceptor? Just because it was not in the article does not mean it doesn't. After all ,we are not even give the ap on one of the weapons.

Matthew.Lee. said...

Sikarius- I believe it is Heavy 4 x2, which is effectively Heavy 8 if you're shooting at only one target.

Personally, I doubt I'd ever run it at 2,000pts, but I'd run a TON of them in Apocalypse.

whoops just remembered the uber dread thing was the adeptus mechanicus thing silly me but what of the other rhino variants and vanguard veteran transport any info on what happened to that

Sorry for my utter lack of punctuation.

The Hunter/Stalker are probably the Rhino variants (something built on a Rhino Chassis...like a RazorBack, Whirlwind, Predator, Vindicator, etc).
If it does not have interceptor then it's best bet is to stick it in a ruin with a techmarine, hope for the initial 3+ save (bolster defense)to keep the tank alive and able to shoot. But 8 shots at S7 is going to drop any flyer out their in a single volley (well, perhaps not with my dice). And if you can squadron them...
Don't forget if you have an ADL with quad gun you also have 4 more T/L S7 shots that do have interceptor and you can put the Hunter/Stalker in their for the 4+...get a free intercept shot then force him to decide which gun to try and kill, the AV12 with 4+ or the T7 with either 2+ or 4+.
And even hitting on 6's, 8 shots should give you a few hits...can you prescience a vehicle?

Personally I hate Interceptor. If you can't build an army to do what it needs to, tough.

And all the whining about AA vehicles getting destroyed so easy? So what. Half of their function is to distract the enemy.

If you have AA and your own flyers then you have what you need. If they go after your AA then your flyers mess him up. So simple.

We do know for a fact that it doesn't have interceptor. However, if you're going 2nd and don't want it destroyed, you can always reserve it and bring it on to take its free shot in the following turn.

And while it can opt to target two fliers with the 2 turrets, it does so at a penalty to its BS. And one final note is that neither of these is more than one we pay for one whirlwind, now. So if one get's smoked it's not an enormous loss, and they're easy to double up on without breaking the bank. :)
