New Space Marine Rumors

New Space Marine Rumors hit the web.  And things are looking interesting for the majority of 40K players who play the Angels of Death!

The interesting thing will be how GW fixes the sad truth.  Vanilla Space Marines pretty much suck.  Well, thanks to Best_Pone, the ever stalwart rumor monger.

From Best_Pone on Warseer

Up for release in September is the new Codex: Space Marines.

- There will be 7 Ltd Ed varients. 6 of these will be covers for First Founding chapters, whilst the 7th will have Black Templars on the cover.

- New weapon family: Grav weapons. I believe these wound against the armour save (so terminators would be wounded as if they had a toughness of 2).

- First Founding chapters will be getting a substantial section each to themselves, so hopefully this can be looked as as Codex: Space Marines instead of Codex: Ultramarines. This will also show in a rule called Chapter Tactics, for which the effects depend on the chapter being played.

- There is a new armour type that at first glance looks to be somewhere between a terminator and a dreadnought - looking more closely, it appears to go over the marine's power armour however.

- This new armour can be armed in 2 ways, depending on the user. The devastator version has either a bolter array or missile launchers mounted on the chest armour, whilst the gauntlets can be armed with heavy bolters, lascannons or grav cannons. The assault version has a bolter array or frag launchers mounted on the chest armour, with assault drills mounted on the gauntlets.

- There are 2 new AA tanks. One tank veterans will already be familiar with as the Hunter, armed an AA missile launcher. The other tank mounts 2 tri-barreled turrets instead.

- There is a new tactical squad. Lots of options as you'd expect, but of particular interest will probably be the grav pistol and grav rifle.

- A new plastic Sternguard veteran squad.

- A new plastic Vanguard veteran squad.

- New plastic characters: a captain, a librarian and a chaplain.

All good tidbits in my book.

We are a month away!

Finally... PLASTIC YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

And now, hell freezes over becuase I totally agree, Vanilla marines are quite sad, they are the Jack of all Trades book, but Masters of NOTHING, playable, but... not that enjoyable.

Exactly. Welcome to the world of reality Lufgt! :-)

There already is a plastic CPT so I don't really see the need for that at all. Some of these rumors sound unlikely or unwanted. Plastic veterans sounds cool but I think if they went more of an add on route as with the black templar set it would be more cost viable for both the player and the company.

Marines offer beginning players an iconic army. It's all how you play them. They can be boring, but better to call them reliable.

With every option from heavy armour to static defence to fast attack and anything in between they're a consistent force to bring to the table.

Sounds like the new armor will look something like this http://gearsofwar.wikia.com/wiki/Silverback?file=Silverback_diagram_with_annotations.jpg

Given the number of new kits with each release, I could see them doing a Tactical Squad, combined Sternguard/Vanguard box, 1 blister, a tank (that might also be a combined kit) and possibly this uber-dreadnought thingy that we've heard about. If the super-dread isn't happening, then the last kit would be the new suits. Like the rest of the rumours before a release, this seems like way too many kits, even for Space Marines.

"I'll believe it when I see it."

My standard response to anything involving GW's plans.

I'm sorry, but that the f**k? Orks need an update way before Space Marines!

Ofc Games Workshop fanboy over the SM rather than help our the xenos....

Ork's literally have very little flexibility, whereas Space Marines do. Space Marines are winning at tournaments or getting close to finals.....Ork's are not.

Lol ye, always fanboying SM before Xenos, thats why Tau and Eldar both got their codexes before the SMs.... You donkey...

Given that they are apparently planning to get each army a new codex before 2014/2015, I think it's less a case of fanboying a more what fits in the schedule. Having to wait a couple months is really not a problem.

Adam... if you are paying any kind of attention to the rumor mill, which you apparently are not, Orks are slated for February... after Imperial Guard but before Tyrannids.

Lemartes, I'm 99% sure that Hastings said it was October (probably just so they can get the obvious pun in)and he's right most of the time.

Orks are viable in 6th with many unique builds. Vannila marines are suppose to be the muddle of the fulcrum between pure shoot and pure punchy. Sadly they can not out shoot anyone or out punch any one. All their gimmicks are better done by divergent chapters.

TEMPLARS!!! IN THE VANILLA!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Seriously though Templar Chapter Structure are closer to the Legions of the Horus Heresy era than they are to the crappy 1 Chapter Master - 10 Captains 1000 Marines thingy... Templars are more like 1 High Marshal (Chapter Master) - 10 Marshals (still similar to Chapter Masters) - under them are Castellans (Captains) - so why mix us with some Vanilla structured crud? Are you sure the last one isn't the Crimson Fist? the only detailed 2nd Founding Chapter found on the current Vanilla Dex?

I don't know what you guys are doing but I regularly win with my vanilla marines in both small and big games against seasoned players and newbies alike. With the DA being in the starter kit, we might see them becoming the go-to army for new players.

Hahaha Robert you are talking out your arse. Works have very few viable tournament builds, there's at most 3. Green tide got kicked in the teeth with 6th and Trukk boys are dead.

Seems GW let black Templars fall to the waist side since they can't copyright there symbol. Hope there is something good for the iron hands tho.
