Forge World Legion Praetors, Luna Wolves

From Forge World:

Praetors are the mightiest warriors and battle-leaders of the Legiones Astartes, second only to the godlike Primarchs in their martial skill and generalship. Each is a vastly experienced warrior and warlord, unique in character, who has writ a legend for themselves in blood and slaughter.

These lords of the Imperium possess a panoply of the finest weapons and armour known to humanity and hold the power of life and death over worlds, with direct control over entire war fleets and great armies. In their ranks can be found Chapter Masters and Lord Commanders, Khans, Tribunes and First Captains as the traditions of the Legions dictate; regardless of title each is a master of war, and each has conquered worlds unnumbered in the glory of the Great Crusade.

The Legion Praetors set contains two incredibly detailed multi-part resin models, designed by Edgar Skomorowski. One Praetor is clad in artificer-modified Cataphractii armour, armed with an ornate paragon blade power sword and a Volkite Charger, while the other wears ornate artificer-modified MkIII ‘Iron’ armour and carries a fantastically-detailed archaeotech pistol, as well as a mighty paragon blade power sword. These two characters are fully compatible with Forge World’s Terminator and MkIV weapon sets, allowing for a great variety of wargear options.

I already have a set of these and highley reccomend them!

And the Luna Wolves get their decal and brass etch due:

So go to the Forgeworld site and order up you Horus Heresy nuts!

More Horus Heresy Notes

Here is a summary of information, much of which I covered already, some of which is new.  Thanks to Garro on Heresy30K who was a source for much this article.

Origins of the Heresy:

The first mentions of the Heresy was simply to fill a gap on a page, in one of the expansion books to Rogue Trader in 1987. Oddly enough the first HH weekender is on the 25th annivesary year of the existence of the Horus Heresy.  Adeptus Titanicus was set in the heresy era simply due to GW not being able to afford to create different titans, so they decided on a 'civil war' setting.

The Horus Heresy, Book II: Massacre

Book 2 in Forge World's range of Horus Heresy rulebooks is focused on the first part of the drop site massacre on Isstvan 5. (initial lands, loyalist attack of traitor forces, loyalist retreat back to newly landing zones, loyalists get hammered).  The armies in Massacre are:

-Night Lords
-Salamanders
-Iron Hands
-Word Bearers

These legions receive their primarch, 2-3 special characters, 2 'Legion Exclusive' units and 'Legion Exclusive' wargear and Rite of War.

The Night Lords are getting a 'Raptor' jump assault unit and a 'terror' focused unit.

The Salamanders receive Firedrake terminators (only unit in Horus Heresy to have storm shields) and a flamer focused infantry unit.  A playtester told Alan Bligh that theTerminator Unit was the "unit most made of win ever"

The Iron Hands receiving a bionic heavy Breecher squad, and the Gorgon Terminators, which include the Morlocks (Ferrus Manus's bodyguard)

Word Bearers are receiving the 'Circle of Ashes'; which are a flame focused destroyer unit, their purpose is to locate and destroy planet's holy places.  And the

Gal Vorbak. a unit of heavily possessed marines  (Expect Argel Tal here).

Mechanicum

Receives new units (1HQ comfirmed, one new unit for Legio Cybernetica confirmed, FoC position unknown) other un-announced units hinted at.

Previously Seen Legions:

-Sons Of Horus
-Emperor's Children
-Death Guard
-World Eaters

These legions all receive an additional 'Legion Exclusive' unit.  The only one of these we know are the Emperor's Children, which are getting 'proto' sonic marines. The others were not mentioned.

Book 3-6

Book three covers the second part of the Isstvan 5 campaign and the Battle of Phall. The book contains:

Raven Guard
Alpha Legion
Iron Warriors
Imperial Fists

These legions will receive their Primarch, 2-3 special characters, 2 'legion exclusive' units and additional wargear and rites of war exclusive to their legion.

Mechanicum unknown whether they are in the book, but it is almost a certain that Mechanicum will feature in all books; they will also receive new units. But what these are is unknown.

Books four, five, and six will cover the events at Prospero, Calth and Signus Prime. although the order for these is not set in stone.  Prospero will almost certainly come first. These books will also see the introduction of 'non-astartes' forces.  (e.g. Imperial/traitor guard).

Prospero will see the Legio Custodes and the Sisters of Silence

Calth will have Imperial Guard  Alan Bligh stated that their would be several different Imperial Army lists covered throughout the books, due to the wide variety.   I assume this will work as in 40k (tank company, siege regiment, airborne, etc.)

Signus will have Daemons.  This will simply be an expansion to the present Deamons codex, with some new units and characters in addition to alterations to existing units (e.g. unit size)  Simon Egan already has some ideas for the Sanguinius model. and he's looking forward to doing him, (as he loves sculpting feathers).

Daemons and Imperial Army will not receive full new model ranges, and will rely on the GW and existing FW ranges for basics. only new units will get new models.

OTHER THINGS

Dark Angels and White Scars will be waiting until book 7 if not longer.

Forge World is planning to release Ferrus Manus next, aiming at advanced sales at games day. The model of Ferrus Manus is sitting in Simon Egan's fridge at home.

An Erebus/Kor Phaeron double kit will come out shortly after. Then it will be Horus, with Mortarion after him. 3 people are now working on the HH 'Characters Series'.  So releases of primrachs and special characters should start to speed up.  Simon Egan has been the only one working on them up 'til now.

Legions may receive their shoulderpads/vehicle doors/transfers and brass etch sheets before there books are released or even worked on.  This is to allow players to start collecting their legions early and then simply adding their special units and characters when their books arrives.

Legions will continue to receive additional new units and characters with later appearances. so that players whose legion is done early is not left out later no. However all Legions will receive the same amount of attention in total.

I hope this all helps!

The Missing Legions...

...are the new Squats.  Seriously, ask about the 2nd and 11th Legions at a Forge World or Black Library event (like last weekend's Horus Heresy Weekender) and you are now looked at the way that poor chaps who kept asking about when the Squats were coming back quats at every Gamesday Q&A.  (Eyes roll)

As Alan Merrett said at the Horus Heresy Weekend "You will never know who those legions are."  because, he said, they were always meant to give gamers the ability to create their own legions and histories.  It was planned that way and will not change.

So plan away, knowing tose two Legions will always remain a mystery.

Loken

P.S.  The above image is from "Unremembered Empire" which will blow people away, as it is very much like "Avengers" in the way the Loyalist Primarchs beat the crap out of each other before working together.  We all loved the brief we got from the Black Library crew!

And from the ever-diligent TasteTaste at Blood & Kittens:

Most of the rules information can be gathered from the Battle Report section of the White Dwarf. Here is what we know.
  • Wraithknight: Can get Suncanons: S6 AP2 Blast Heavy 3. Twin-linked with Laser Lock if Scatter Lasers hit first. Jump Pack, Monstrous Creature, 6 Wounds, T8, (Scattershield) for Invulnerable Save
  • Crimson Hunter (Fighter): Gets 2 Bright Lances and Pulse Laser : "Basically Four Lascannons" Gets a "Fighter Ace upgrade"

  • Psychic Powers: Fortune (Re-roll Saves), Quicken (Increased Movement), Guide (re-roll hits), Restrain (Opposite of Quicken) Two sets of powers accessible.
  • Dire Avengers: Battlefocus: run and shoot in the same turn.
  • Avatar: Fearless bubble, Fleet
  • Wraithblades: T6 Forceshield Generator so invulnerable save
  • Wraithlord: is still T8
The focus of the battle report was of course on the new units, especially the Wraithknight it is almost like GW wants us to buy a certain model or something...
Other little tidbits...
  • Phil Kelly wrote the rules and Adam Troke the fluff.
  • No price yet for Iyanden Supplement
  • Wraithguard can get either Wraithcannon or the D-scythe so this might mean split on rules from the old dex between each weapon.
  • The force organization of Eldar Unit hasn't changed just new models added into slots
  • Wraithknight to Heavy Support
  • Flyers to Fast Attack
  • Wraithblades to Elite
  • Spirit Seer to HQ
  • Named Ranger to HQ
As for the rumors floating around here is some cut and paste love from around the internet.

via Powerguy over on Dakka
Got a sneak peek of the White Dwarf today, managed to dig out some actual rules from the battle report, preview teasers and a couple of tiny pages from the codex that were printed in the WD that I managed to read. Not many stats on offer but still a reasonable chunk of rules. I'm probably mis-remembering the names of some of these rules but here is what I picked up in no particular order:
- From what I saw all the non Wraith infantry have the run/shoot shoot/run ability (the rule was called Battle something). Avengers definitely do (from the report) and Rangers definitely do (from tiny printed profile in the WD) as well. Not sure if its just for Shuriken weapons (Rangers do have Pistols I guess).
- It looks likes all Eldar have the 'Ancient Foe' special rule, no idea what this does but I suspect its something like Hatred Daemons of Slaneesh (don't think it was Necron related as the report was against Crons) since all Eldar appear to have it (including the Wraith units).
- There are 14 Eldar specific psychic powers from 2 different charts, Runes of Battle and Runes of Fate. However it looks like several of the powers are 2 in 1, i.e they have a buff mode and a debuff mode, so there are actually HEAPS of powers. I.e the Primaris for Battle is Conceal/Reveal (as a single card/roll etc), Conceal gives you Shrouded and Reveal removes Shrouded from an enemy. The 1 on the Battle Chart was Destructor/Renew(?), Destructor being the same as before with Soul Blaze added and Renew allowing you to restore a wound to a friendy model within range (18" I think). Primaris for Runes of Fate was Guide, which is now 24" range but is otherwise the exact same as before. Very surprising to see this as aside from the range it is far worse than the Divination Primaris (although I guess you could take both and effectively Guide two units). The 1 on the Fate Chart was a terrible Focuses Witchfire power. Fortune and Doom are still options (the Farseer in the report had them) and appear to have the same effects.
- The Avatar has Fleet. Also one of the psychic powers increases your movement speed/charge range somehow
- The Wraithknight is insanely huge, it is literally twice the height of a Wraithlord, and the sword option it can take is basically the size of a Wraithlord as well. It can take up to 2 Suncannons, which are S6 AP2 Heavy 3 Small Blast or up to 2 Wraithlances(?) which are presumably the heavy anti tank option. Sword replaces one of the big guns I think (they are arm mounted like the Titans). This is in addition to the two shoulder mounted heavy weapons (I saw Scatters and Starcannons, so presumably the normal range of heavy weapons are available)
- Wraithguard and Wraithblades look good, think scaled down Wraithlords. They looked a bit bigger than the old ones, but I think it was partly just the added range of motion in the poses on 40mm bases (similar to the old 25mm base Terminators vs the newer 40mm base ones, they are bigger but the better poses help as well). Wraithguard can now get either Wraithcannons (which from the fluff descriptions seemed to still be single shot and very powerful) or D Scythes which were described as a multi shot weapon but it could still Pen vehicles on a 6. Wraithblades are only 1A base (sadly) but looked like they could go either 2 CCW(no idea on stats of their weapons, but they appeared to have sword/axe options) or 1 CCW + Shield gen arm.
- Wraithguard are definitely S5 T6, Lord is almost certainly not T6 (a full unit of Destroyers shot one in the report and did nothing, which suggests T8 or some other equivalent buff). No idea on the stats for the Knight.
- It looks like Aspect Warriors have the same base profile, include Exarches with Ld9
- Reapers have Slow and Purposeful
- Rangers have WS4. They also have a character (not sure if he is upgrade or HQ) who has a 120" range Sniper Rifle.
- One of the fliers has 2 Heavy D Scythes on the wings and a psychic based main gun. The other has 2 Bright Lances and a Pulse Laser.
- Saw stats for what looked like special weapons for characters, might have been for Special Characters as well since the 120" range sniper was in there. One weapon was +2S, AP- Melee, Rending, Fleshbane, Instant Death. Another was +1S AP3, Soul Blaze, and if you killed anything with Soul Blaze then every unit within 6" of that unit would become effected by Soul Blaze as well. There was also a one use only piece of wargear, which you could use when the character died. On a 2+ you place a S4 AP3 template over the character, hitting both friend and foe, but if you cause at least 1 wound then the character stands back up with 1 wound. Last one I saw was an item which gave the user Fearless, Shrouded, Stealth and re-roll cover saves but they lose the IC rule, which gives people a way to make a Solitare (the name was something to do with the Laughing God).
"Fire Dragon WS 4 BS 4 S 3 T 3 W 1 I 5 A 1

Forge World Releases Necron Tomb Sentinel

Forge World has released another Necron model, to support the release of Imperial Armour 12: The Fall of Orpheus

From Forge World:

In the ages-old Necron panoplies of war, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is all but unique. One of the last war machines designed by the Cryptek master-artificer Toholk the Blinded, at the Silent King’s command it was given over to the Praetorians for wider dissemination across the Necron dynasties before the Great Sleep.

Both guardian and aggressor, the Tomb Sentinel is a heavily modified variant of the insectile Tomb Stalker, which forgoes that device’s hellish close combat ability and instead mounts an Exile cannon, a powerful weapon which blasts objects out of existence, casting them into other dimensional realms beyond the material universe. Phasing through the paltry defences of lesser races like a phantom, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel can deploy this terrible device into the close confines of an enemy stronghold with devastating effects.

The Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is a detailed multi-part resin kit designed by Will Hayes which offers a wealth of dynamic modelling opportunities, much like the Tomb Stalker. This model is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 31st May.

The model clocks in at £45 or $68.

The Next Three Horus Heresy Novels

During the Horus Heresy Weekender, we got a glimpse of the next three Horus Heresy novels.  Here they are:

Vulkan Lives by Nick Kyme

What happens to Vulkan when he disappears in a massive ball of fire on Istvaan V?  This novel highlights Vulkan as well as Conrad Kurze.

Unremembered Empires by Dan Abnett

A novel that is a sequel to many novels; No Know Fear, Fear to Tread, Betrayer, Vulkan Lives and Deliverance Lost.  We see dissension within the loyalist Primarchs and then a couple of them actually going to blows!

Vengeful Spirit by Graham McNeil

A novel about Horus and what he is doing.  Kicking ass and taking names.  We will see the massive battle of   We see a lot of Loken and the slow disintegration of the Sons of Horus.  Horus thinks that he can control Chaos and use them and then put them back, but that isn't the way Chaos works.

Graphic Novel:

A graphic novel that is a sequel to Know No Fear.  Art by Horus Heresy cover artist Neil Roberts.

A lot to look forward to!

Forge World Khrabdyis Assault Claw

Here are detailed photos of the Khrabdyis Assault Claw from Forge World that debuted at the Horus Heresy Weekender.  Will Hayes is the sculptor.  Retractable Landing Legs.  Possibly only Chaos.  Possibly a Super Heavy (2 Structure points).  Has a huge melta weapon and multiple missile launchers.  A Flyer with Hover Mode.

Built in holes for Magnets so Landing Legs stay retracted.

A truly impressive model.  And WIll was an awesome salesman and very passionate about his work.

Forge World Taros Campaign Gets Revision

Just released by Forge World, the updated version of Imperial Armour 3.

From Forge World:

Imperial Armour Volume Three – Second Edition: The Taros Campaign

When the industrial world of Taros falls secretly under the sway of the expanding Tau Empire, its mineral resources are diverted to the factories of the Tau and away from the ever-hungry Forge Worlds of the Imperium.

The Imperial response is brutal and direct with the full force of the Emperor’s military might being unleashed against the upstart xenos. The bitter war that follows involves two Adeptus Astartes Chapters, as well as thousands of Imperial Guardsmen from the famed regiments of Elysia and Tallarn. This record chronicles the war from its inception to its dire conclusion.

Imperial Armour Volume Three – Second Edition: The Taros Campaign is the definitive reference for using Forge World’s extensive range of Tau Empire armoured vehicles and battlesuits in games of 6th Edition Warhammer 40,000. This book includes profiles for each and every Tau Empire unit in the Forge World range, from the humble Heavy Gun Drone to the super-heavy Manta, including those units deployed after the bloody conflict on Taros such as the potent XV9 Hazard Close Support Team and our Kroot Auxiliary units.

In addition to this wealth of Tau content, the book contains a fully updated 6th Edition Elysian Drop Troops army list, and expansion rules for fielding Tallarn Desert Raiders using Codex: Imperial Guard, as well as updated 6th Edition rules for Tallarn Mukaali Riders.

This 276-page hardback book is packed with artwork and colour profiles for the forces of the Tau Empire, the Tallarn and Elysian Imperial Guard regiments, and the Avenging Sons and Raptors Space Marine Chapters. It also contains unique scenarios to allow the bitter engagements of the Taros Campaign to be refought on the tabletop.

These were available at the Horus Heresy Weekender and are now available through Forge World mail order.
