One thing you might want to realize is not every apoc game is 15000 points per play with 10 players per side. Some are 3000 points vs 3000 points.
While I agree that they wont impact games like at 1850 point tournaments they still have their place. Flamers can deepstrike in small parts of the board and are an instant threat for any unit.
