40k Mentioned in Family Circus

It looks like we 40k fans (and Dawn of War fans) got a treat for Halloween from Family Circus with a brief mention. I do have to say, of all the newspaper comics, Family Circus is the last one I'd expect to see any 40k reference in.

Chaos Daemon FAQ Up!

Chaos Daemon Codex FAQ

The new Chaos Daemon FAQ is up.

On another front, a great article on BoLS on the ascendency of Daemons.  This is becoming a major force in 6th edition and the article pretty well summarizes what is being seen and what the Daemon strengths are.

Frankly, in Apocalypse, I don't see Daemons being a big threat since they have no vehicles and rarely enough space to Deep Strike!

Good hunting!

Feast of Blades - Demons and Flyers

Feast of Blades has turned into one of the big four national tournaments.  And so with a few hundred people battling it out in both the Invitational and Open tournaments a couple of things were very obvious.  Cranberry Muffinman from 40K Nation and I webcast the event and interviewed all the players on the feature table. Here is what we saw and heard around the tables.

Daemons are in

Four of the top 8 armies were Daemons.  Daemon armies were all over the place.  Why?  Screamers and Flamers.  Two ridiculously tough units.  Screamers act like jet bikes and are S5 AP 2, 2 wounds and basically a beast in HtH.  Flamers really can't be assaulted because of their weaponry and can dish out huge shooting damage.  As we were broadcasting the feature table, we saw 3 Daemon on Daemon games in addition to the final!

Necron Night Scythes are insane

BoLS just wrote an article you need to read.  8+ Necron Night Scythe armies were in evidence and while not in the top 8, were clearly powerful.  Twin Linked Tesla weapon at S7 and Assault 4.  Av 11/11/11 with living metal.  And it is a dedicated transport and only 100 points!

The thing is, they have limited/small units to hold objectives and so while packing a lot of Tesla love, they have a hard time with games that require you to hold objectives.  So I think there is a lot of noise, but in tournament games, they are total hit or miss armies.

Of course in Apocalypse, they are pretty nasty, and I expect my good friend and local Necron Lord "Wild" Bill Hubbell to start fielding lots of these.

Also, check out both Spikey Bits for your gaming needs and Next Level Painting for your painting needs.  Both guys are super nice and I highly recommend them.

Apocalypse40K at Feast of Blades

Feast of Blades is one of the big four tournaments on the country (Adepticon, Wargamescon, Novacon).  And they asked myself and Cranberry Muffinman of 40K Nation to broadcast the event, and you can watch the live feed here:

http://www.feastofblades.com/

Based in Denver, CO, the event has been growing rapidly over the past three years.  It is a good event, with a great, casual feel.

Here are some photos:

The great terrain built for Feast of Blades.  The Landing Pads and Bunkers were on most tables.  Overall, very good and varied terrain.

 72 Bunkers were made!

Purity Seals are handed out as awards for various table-top acts of valor!

The narrative game was truly impressive.  The huge Necron army took on all comers.

Please check out our live feed Sunday!

Forge World New Releases - Horus Heresy

Forge World has released two more of its Horus Heresy kits.  First the big and bad-ass Typhon Heavy Siege Tank.  This beast is awesome in that its gun is a 7" blast Strength 10 AP 1 ordnance with NO COVER SAVES.  The range is 24" if you move and 48" if not.   HOLY BOMBARDMENT BATMAN!

From Forge World:

Typhon Heavy Siege Tank

Named for the ‘Great Beast’ of Ancient Terran myth, the immense Typhon Heavy Siege Tank was developed by the Mechanicum alongside the Spartan, with which it shares a basic chassis design.
The Typhon’s primary armament is the massive Dreadhammer cannon, and was created in response to a request from the Primarch Peturabo, master of the Iron Warriors. He demanded a Legiones Astartes war engine that could rival the great batteries of the Imperial Crusade Army in firepower, but manoeuvre and deploy at the speed of a Space Marine force.
Complete resin kit, model designed by Daren Parrwood. This model is available to pre-order now and will be despatched the week commencing the 2nd of November.

Scimitar Pattern Space Marine Jet Bike

Squadrons of ‘Sky Hunters’ are fielded by almost all of the Legiones Astartes. These feared strike units are heavily armed and mounted upon sophisticated and powerful craft more akin to small flyers than ground bikes. Their size allows for a potent heavy weapon armament, and it is not uncommon for these squadrons to range far ahead of the main strength of a Space Marine force, striking targets of opportunity at will.

The Scimitar Jetbike is a complete resin kit. Model designed by Daren Parrwood. The set four weapon options: Heavy Bolter, Plasma Cannon, Multi-Melta or Volkite Culvarin. This model is available to pre-order now and will be despatched the week commencing the 2nd of November.

I have some money left in the bank, so will be ordering 3 Typhons.  I will get one squadron of 3 jet bikes just because I buy everything, but not happy with the design.

Abbadon and more Horus Heresy from Forge World

From the ever present Stickmonkey

It looks like the Heresy is moving forward at full speed, and Forgeword is keen to get all the units in that book out asap, including the characters.  Look for the following to be revealed before the holidays:

October - early November:

Centurian Shabran Darr (World Eaters)
Rampager Squads upgrade kit  (World Eaters)
Abaddon (Sons of Horus)

The FW guys are very keen on getting this special treatment out for all the featured legions in Betrayal.

I don't know the exact order of release for the legions, but DG are supposed to be nearing reveal after the finished Abaddon is ready.

November:

Mortarion (Death Guard)
Deathshroud (Death Guard)
Death Guard upgrade kits for Mk.II - MK.IV (Death Guard)
Death Guard upgrade kits for Cataphracti Terminators (Death Guard)
Crysos Morturg (Death Guard)
Durak Rask (Death Guard)
Legion Vindicator

A DG contemptor body is in the works along the lines of the relic body. Pretty much just the same as the relic, but has DG iconography.

Thanks to Max from Darog's Company for the photos!

New Fellblade from Blood & Skulls!

From Tom McBride:

With the upcoming Feast of Blade tournament I was asked if I could once again supply a prize and of course I said yes.  It's not often I get to build up something cool for a good cause.  But what to build?

Well a Fellblade naturally, but not just any Fellblade.  It was time to introduce something new.  So without further ado, here it is:

So as you can see the Tank Engine 2 (plasma engine) and Nova Cannon (plasma cannon) will soon be new entries into my store.  They still need a few tweaks before production but both should be available by the end of the month.

Of course with the release of these components I can perhaps restart a old neglected project just in time for the release of their long awaited codex....

New Space Marine Model Rumors!

The ever impressive Stickmonkey over at Waseer, has once again come up with the most amazing SPace Marine rumors of what is coming up.  Knowing him, this is all spot on.

Stickmonkey:

These are all wip and no release timing is available. Codex SM is not underway, so these may be a splash release or could be a long way off. New tactical squad. Hvy flamer. Mk 8 style.

There are more mk 8 bits here than before, but there are still "beakies" too. Includes many options not released before in plastic, including a Hvy flamer, a backpack style (read devastator) missile launcher w flakk missile, slings on bolters, power weapon options. Basically think of all the blinged out options you get w a BA, SW, GK box and now apply it to tactical marines. Poses are all standing, but they aren't as static.

New assault squad. New jump packs. New weapon options  The retooling is similar to tac squad. The jump packs are all new, but don't get knickers in a twist cause they are the same style as current ones. They just look better cause the seam is not there. New cc options in the sprue include THSS and LC. There is a few new options in here I can't reveal.

New librarian mini sprue. Codex options included.    This is where the librarian/chaplain kit I saw a long time ago went. Has a force sword or staff, has combi weapons, has pistols. Two heads. All in mini sprue. It's 2 mini sprues. Only options from current codex not present are jump pack, bike, or TA. No info on where chaplain went.

New Techmarine mini sprue. Conversion Beamer. Edit: very similar to current tech ax Techmarine. Layered body. Has tech ax, tech sword, plasma pistol, combi weapons, couple variants on servo arms, and conversion Beamer. 2 mini sprues.

NOTE: On both these mini sprue characters the heads and weapons are compatible with existing line. But the arms/bodies are unique.

New scout box. New sculpts. Combined boxes. New options. Edit: includes some new scout only weapons. Heads are less bulky. All codex options present in one box.

New flyer. Interceptor/bomber. Flat but boxy. Storm raven sized. No transport. No hover. Heavy assault cannon and ff missiles. Or bombs and servo drones in gun pods. Shares wing/engine aesthetics of storm raven, but fuselage is flatter. Wings not as bent. No thrusters in wingtips. Two tail options, one for each build.

New scout transport. Like Tauros (FW ig) but open wagon style. Halo warthog mashed w rhino. Pintle TL HB. Rumored rule only will allow pintle weapon when unit is embarked. Fast vehicle. 4 buggy style wheels. Rider models/bits compatible with new scout box. Roughly rhino sized. For Baja race fans think armored sandrail.

Cheers. Like I mentioned, these are likely a long way off, and I will fill in more later.

So there you go!  A great year for Space Marines.  Compare this with the list in the last post and you will see a few changes, but pretty much 2013 is a banner year for the boys in power armor!
