There is a new player in the rumor space and it is Skcuzzlebumm's Skuttlebutt and he has some amazing Chaos Rumors. Here they are (and thanks Neil).
Release date - 1st September (7 weeks he said) and it is a hard back like the 8e WFB Army Books.
There is an Eye of the Gods esque table (Warriors of Chaos players will
know what I am talking about) that you get to roll on whenever a
character kills another character in a challenge, or a Walker or
Monstrous Creature. There is a multitude of gifts (and curses) that your
Characters can acquire which range from +1 Save, +1 Toughness, or
becoming either a Spawn or a Daemon Prince!!!
Chaos Cultists are definetely in (but we all kinda know that already),
as is the 'Dragon' - think Necron Night Scythe with the main chassis
been replaced by a massive mechanical dragon head with segmented wings
sweeping forward and around from it. On top of those there are also:
- Dark Apostles - evil Chaplains basically
- Warp Smiths - evil Techmarine that can curse vehicles and degrade terrain.
- A new Daemon Engine - half way between a Dreadnought and a Defiler.
- Speaking of Defilers as they are Daemons they have a 5+ Inv save.
- 'Cult' units are all Elites and are unlocked to Troops by appropriate HQ choices, but there are no Cult Terminators which makes me sad.
- Obliterators are exclusively for shooting - so no powerfists. BUT there is a new unit which is basically a close combat Obliterator.
- There are 2 types of Raptors now; regular CSM with Jump Packs, and then some kind of Possessed Daemonic Raptors that all come with Lightning Claws!
- Possessed are meant to be amazing, and take a lot of benefits from the Eye of the Gods esque table.
- There are NO Daemons in the Codex because that is what Allies are for.
And of course, as usual, sprinkle liberally:

ReplyDeletePossessed Daemonic Raptors=bleeding eyes...
This just may make me rethink the possibility of playing CSM again, it's been years. But, I also imagine this will be this year's final army d'juer (sp?) with GW pulling out all the stops to reel in new players and trap the experienced ones with the mania to buy new shiny things....
ReplyDeleteI may have become a little excited. Especially considering that I'm building and painting a Word Bearers force, which WILL include wing-bearing possessed Raptors! WINNING!
ReplyDeleteThank you!

With all due respect, this rumor is circulating on a lot of blogs. The author is completely misinformed and very little of what he is describing will actually be found in the new Codex.
ReplyDeleteWithout going into details about what actually is there, the descriptions of the new units are way off, the Eye of the Gods does not exist, and none of the enhancements to existing units are described accurately.
This is frustrating to read. I understand people's impatience with the existing Codex, but a significant amount of effort has gone into developing the new one and getting it right. It's upsetting to think there will be gamers in the community who will be disappointed when it finally hits the shelves, because their expectations have been set so high by rumors such as these.
As I just posted in reply to this above post on my own blog:
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect back to yourself (I am always somewhat sceptical when I see an Anonymous poster), my friend (who I can't name for obvious reasons) had no reason not to tell me the anything but the truth. He is fully involved in the development and playtesting of Games Workshop products for a long number of years now. Everything he has talked about in the past has always come to pass. So why would this be any different? So I am going to stick by my guns and what he said.
I hope it gets more chaos players into our local meta. They've been absent for years. Imperial vs. Xenos is fun and all, but getting some more epic downfall games in will be good to see.
