I saw this video yesterday and it had me rolling. I love how he salutes the legal team in their stealth fighters as they take off, and the one guy just constantly cutting "warpdust" on the table, too fucking funny.
I'm going to be "that guy" and say that I didn't find it funny at all. I've been hearing/reading the same complaints about GW for almost 20 years now. Its tired.
It's a nice animation and everything but all it really does is just reinforce the opinions of ill informed GW bashing trolls who genuinely believe that GW are some form of evil corporation out to destroy the hobby and don't care a damn about the gamers in any way, which is categorically untrue of course.
They're a business and as such need to make a profit and they also need to show that they're being proactive about taking on IP infringement but they also produce a huge range of (in the main) highly detailed minis with an excellent background and a wide variety of rules to suit most if not all playing styles.
They don't always get things right and the pricing, looks, rules and so on are subjective but in the main they are an excellent and very successful company that produces a hobby I'm proud to be a part of, and no I do not and never have worked for them and I do not believe they are perfect (thought I'd get that in before someone tries to make out I'm some sort of 'Shill' or 'Fanboy').
Ben, I agree with most of what you say, but there is a difference between the cold, uncaring suits in the executive suite (Tom Kirby et al) and the studio. The studio are awesome, dedicated, passionate people. But the executive side has been the ones increasing prices to ridiculous levels and strangling the hobby. They are the ones over-reaching on their IP claims (Like claiming the name Space Marine is their IP which it is clearly not). So I have to disagree that GW is all good and nice and only out for hobbyists.
I did say they weren't perfect :) and I'd agree to a certain extent with what you say, though I don't believe its quite so simple as that but yes the 'business' side is always going to clash with the creative one unfortunately.
It does not mean, as some people believe however that GW aren't an ostensibly good company at what they do as in create lovely miniatures, great background and the rest and have a knowledgeable and creative staff at its core despite the lawyers and such.
hahahahahahahahaha............that was fucking awesome
ReplyDeleteWhat if we had a Space Marine...inside of a Space Marine. Had me rolling
