Apocalypse Formations Revealed!

The new formations have all been posted as one-click bundles on the Games Workshop website.  79 Formations are listed.
Some of these are single models, like the Baneblade, that make up different formations.

It appears, as is usual GW practice now, that there is no discount.  That is a shame, as one of the great things about the last Apocalypse release was the special box offers that allowed you to build large formations less expensively than was otherwise possible.  A Vindicator Line Breaker Squadron, or the Leman Russ Battle Company, were very popular bundles 6 years ago.  They even had special boxing.

By not offering such deals this time, Games Workshop not only continues its policy of squeezing every last dollar out of its customers, but it offers no incentive for cash strapped players to build even bigger armies.  For everyone already playing Apocalypse, we see no incentive to buy a formation.  We have been playing the game this way for 6 years.

When I published my weekly update on Bell of Lost Souls, the responses were what one would expect:

"I was looking forward to another round of apoc till I read the no discount part. Looks like I really wont be buying any GW models this year after all."

I assume Games Workshop has done the math and thinks the incremental profit from higher prices more than makes up for all the lost sales.

  1. you can get great discounts at retailers like Waylandgames.... some even offer army deals that give you the same Klick Saveing as GW does, for those that care about that

the only thing you will ever save with huge bundels is shipping... no matter were you look

IMO the GW deals are no surprise

  2. It appears SOME one click bundles are accutualy more expensive than just buying them seperatly. BUYER BEWARE

  3. @Unknown

    Thats not strictly true actually.
None of them are more expensive than buying the models separately, a few of them however are more expensive when you use the discounted box sets such as the 3 bike sets or the battle forces to calculate the total price.

Whilst I agree it would have been nice for GW to have boxed and discounted these formations like the previous Apoc release, I do also feel that many people go way over the top with their criticism of the one click bundles and don't seem to understand that they're just a way of inspiring people with their armies (of course it also inspires them to spend more money as well but hey GW are a business after all).

I've said it before and i'll say it again, nobody forces you to buy them and if you want to buy them from a discounted store or from eBay then do so, they're still the same models after all.

  4. Yup the elder jetbike one is cheaper individual buying the boxes of squadrons. Some of the guard ones can be cheaper using the battle force boxes and you get more.
