Feast of Blades - Demons and Flyers

Feast of Blades has turned into one of the big four national tournaments.  And so with a few hundred people battling it out in both the Invitational and Open tournaments a couple of things were very obvious.  Cranberry Muffinman from 40K Nation and I webcast the event and interviewed all the players on the feature table. Here is what we saw and heard around the tables.

Daemons are in

Four of the top 8 armies were Daemons.  Daemon armies were all over the place.  Why?  Screamers and Flamers.  Two ridiculously tough units.  Screamers act like jet bikes and are S5 AP 2, 2 wounds and basically a beast in HtH.  Flamers really can't be assaulted because of their weaponry and can dish out huge shooting damage.  As we were broadcasting the feature table, we saw 3 Daemon on Daemon games in addition to the final!

Necron Night Scythes are insane

BoLS just wrote an article you need to read.  8+ Necron Night Scythe armies were in evidence and while not in the top 8, were clearly powerful.  Twin Linked Tesla weapon at S7 and Assault 4.  Av 11/11/11 with living metal.  And it is a dedicated transport and only 100 points!

The thing is, they have limited/small units to hold objectives and so while packing a lot of Tesla love, they have a hard time with games that require you to hold objectives.  So I think there is a lot of noise, but in tournament games, they are total hit or miss armies.

Of course in Apocalypse, they are pretty nasty, and I expect my good friend and local Necron Lord "Wild" Bill Hubbell to start fielding lots of these.

Also, check out both Spikey Bits for your gaming needs and Next Level Painting for your painting needs.  Both guys are super nice and I highly recommend them.

  1. Alec,

Thanks for throwing me a bone! I have built 3 kit bashed Scythes before the kit came out (hope people don't have an issue with them as they are smaller than the GW model).

Unfortunately, my money tree has not produced much fruit lately, so I haven't been able to purchase the new $50 model. BUT CHRISTMAS IS COMING SOON! (Cue evil music, "Boohahaha!").
