A fun/generous store manager would generally let the store's best painter paint the models to be displayed in the store. It not only created excitement, it let the store's champion painter do something for the community. After a month of it being on display the manager generally gave the model to the person who painted it.

I was the painter for my GW shop until they canceled the black box program due to 'leaks'. It was really disappointing as it had a tangible effect on the store's sales and pre-orders when they could actually see, feel, and play with the model in the store ahead of the release.DarianZGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10767027861405542404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195382392714943771.post-456423991876018892014-01-25T17:05:49.756-08:002014-01-25T17:05:49.756-08:00Here's a crazy idea...how about sending models...Here's a crazy idea...how about sending models to the store for painting 2 weeks before release. If you want to see them in person you can travel to the store to watch the manager paint the dang things. Then release the rules in the $4 magazine 2 weeks after they've arrived at the store with the buyable product. THEN...every six months release a rules compendium with photos and the like in hardcover and iBook for all of the releases for the last six months. I will drive to a store to see them and talk to someone about painting them...sigh...Mikey Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17139473831125438068noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195382392714943771.post-35806437127340565442014-01-25T13:26:14.523-08:002014-01-25T13:26:14.523-08:00That's the thing though. They're basically responding to the blogs getting the word out before they are and are monetising it.

While that's laudable, it's a daft exercise in printing and paper when they could simply publish on a website but seen as they're looking to make money from even the marketing the obvious solution is just not to buy it.

On the upside, instead of waiting a month with grainy photos from a phone camera we'll get high definition pics weekly. Then if that edition interests you, buy that one.

pegboardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13181689355785748593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195382392714943771.post-19538514689150428822014-01-25T12:32:25.542-08:002014-01-25T12:32:25.542-08:00In answer to the above question: a pdf or dataslat...In answer to the above question: a pdf or dataslate wouldn't require customers to visit their local GW every week. The magazine has gone weekly to require exactly that - instead of a single monthly visit to a newsagent.Spiderpopehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11137947790827981518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5195382392714943771.post-57772649597055650742014-01-25T09:42:42.072-08:002014-01-25T09:42:42.072-08:00I really dont understand why they don't just g...I really dont understand why they don't just go the FW model: release a book and then continuously release models. For a "model" company they really seem to be obsessed with trying to make an antiquated business model (magazines you have to buy at a GW store) work. Just release models and then have an associated PDF or dataslate. It makes me wonder if there's someone *cough Jervis cough* who insists that no matter that it's 2014 they MUST have White Dwarf.
