6th Edition Coming Soon!

It is nice when Larry at Bell of Lost Souls breaks a rumor.  And his latest is pretty good.

-Rulebooks are said to have arrived and are in warehouses now worldwide.

-Retailers will receive their merchandise on July 5th, with a public streetdate of Saturday July 7th.

The only question is exactly what date the price codes and pre-orders go up, but it will sometime in the second half of June.   If Games Workshop sticks with their standard "10 day notice" , it would place the 6th Edition advanced orders on June 27th.

This is pretty good news.  Sixth edition is around the corner and it is going to be a big change in many aspects.  Pre-measurement is in, new vehicle rules, AP for close combat attacks.  All very interesting stuff.

The AP for close combat weapons is especially interesting.  What the rumors say is that every close combat weapon has an AP.  But does this make sense?  Here is what has been rumored.....

* Chainfists AP1
* Power Fists AP2
* Power Weapons AP3

But these weapons ALREADY ignore armor.  So does the above even make sense?  Maybe if those are the ONLY weapons that can penetrate those armor values.  Meaning a Imperial Guardsmen's CCW may be AP 6 and can't even penetrate marine armor.

We will wait and see, but anything that makes it harder for basic troops to kill Terminators or other elite troops would make sense.  But of course, probably be balanced out some other way.

  1. I am very anxious to see the actual 6th edition rule sand see how it will impact Apocalypse games. My next scheduled Mini-Siege Apocalypse game is in late August, as we will see how it all pans out.

  2. Hoping the CC AP ratings don't appear in the new edition - makes my already so-so CC units pointless against termies...

  3. I am not sure where I stand on the idea of close combat AP values. The rumored values seem ok, but what does it do to Chain swords/axes, Choppas, and CCWs for most of the other armies.

    Having played the Blood Angels since 3rd ed, I find the current codex missing something. In the previous editions they were complete beast in close combat and the death company were worth taking (and necessary in the pdf dex.) Be it because things with the word Chain in their title were rending or that the editions had tricks that helped, I cant really say. All I can really say about the current Ed & the rumors about 6th is that something comes to differentiate chain, choppas, and CCW from each other more than the book their in.

  5. 6th plus digital is interesting, but honestly 6th is more so. While I like 5th, it's getting pretty mature at this point, so I'm not exactly upset with the change (though I reserve my right to grumble about the price tag on the BGB). I think it's about time for some change in the game. We've certainly had enough rules pop into the last few releases that feel bolted on for lack of a better term. It'd be nice to see them worked more tightly into the core ruleset.

  6. I just hope it would get released already, so i can figure out what to buy/paint on my Dark Eldar.

    Painting stuff without really knowing if they'll be worth it in the new edition is pretty annoying.

  7. If Combat Weapons recieve an AP value it would pretty thorougly screw orks over. Even an Imperial Guardsmen has a CCW (bayonet) in his wargear, and would deny an Ork what little protection he recieves from strapping an armour plate to his chest.... Also a Guardsmen's penetrative power would be better in combat than at range (as Lasguns have no AP) which is somewhat backward...

    I agree though, I cannot wait for some new rules to try out!

  8. Maybe AP plays a factor in punching through vehicle armor.
    Str 5 Bloodletter +ap3 = str 8 hit on vehicle armor, on a 6 it can add up to 13, enough to glance a dreadnought.

    just a thought.
