Forgeworld has stopped producing a bunch of their terrain kits. One of them is the road kit. Basically 5 different pieces of road you put together.
The last set that sold on eBay went for $ 482 the other day. There are now two sets on eBay here and here, and they may well approach this #.
Now, why are these roads so in demand? No clue. The set is incomplete in my mind. There is no 4-way intersection. And the fact is you would have to cast more roads to really make it useful. And I am sure that is what people are doing. It is really simple, as these roads would simply need a one piece mold. So basically, I think people are paying this much because they are using the pieces as masters to create molds and make more.
That means if you are buying these on eBay, make sure you are actually getting Forgeworld pieces and not knock-offs!

Frankly, the Games Workshop Urban Road set is pretty good when you mount them on a hard board, like fiber-board.

The Urban road set from GW is no longer available. I watched a number of these sell for over $100 on eBay a few months ago...

ReplyDeleteI love my FW road set that I have all painted up. I've had it for a very long time. The only pieces I don't have are the bombed and strafed road sections. I ended up with an extra 3 way, when i ordered the set it came in broken in 5 or 6 pieces and FW kindly replaced it for me. I backed them with felt and they have served me worderfully well.
