The Aureate Strikers - Apocalypse Army

I try to feature armies of the members of the Apocalypse40K forum.  Here is part of the army of Ryan (Mulciber Volcanus) from the forum.  It starts with some great super-heavy conversions.

The first is based on the Heroes of Armageddon Golgotha conversion. Ryan wisely used Tom McBride's Fellbalde top plate to center the Reaver Titan missile launcher.

The Bloodhammer. It serves as a command tank, hence all of the icons and antennae.

The Claymore, the long range Titan-killer:

The Warthog is a command vehicle outfitting Hurricane Bolter sponsons and a pintle-mounted Multi Melta. It has a 6-man troop capacity and is meant to serve as a forward command with a group of Rhinos and Razorbacks.
More on Ryan's army in the future!

Forgeworld New Releases - Land Raider Proteus, Relic Contemptor

I have always loved the old school Land Raider.  I even converted one for my own Land Raider Prometheus.  Now Forgeworld has released an updated version of the Mk I Land Raider.  And it is quite awesome.

It is a bit expensive at 80 GBP ($ 127), but a very cool kit none the less.

The Relic Contemptor has also been released, which looks like a Venerable Contemptor.  There are also two new cool arms.

Litko makes custom markers

Litko, the big maker of tokens and markers for all sorts of gaming, now will do custom tokens for your gaming needs.  The minimum order size is only 10 and they cost $ 1 a piece.  I will be taking advantage of this!  Go here to order.

We recently had a discussion about creating flying markers for skimmers that turn into flyers for a turn so there is no confusion.  And this is a perfect way to go.  (Matt Plonski is making some of those which will be available on the Apocalypse forum).

Vehcile Design Rules made easy!

The Age of Strife website has an awesome VDR (Vehicle Design Rules) calculator that you can find here.  VDR is a set of rules for designing your own vehicles that first appeared in White Dwarf and has been updated a few times (though not recently).  The calculator is brilliant as it does all the work for you.  Even spits out the results in a PDF.  Of course, you still need the people you play with to approve your vehicle.

This is especially valuable in Apocalypse.  So start building those cool mega-vehicles!

You can find the VDR Rules in Chapter Approved 2004.  You can find copies readily available on Amazon.

The Primarchs - The Black Library

The Black Library has released information on another forthcoming Horus Heresy book - The Primarchs.

The story

Created in the Emperor’s own image, the primarchs had long thought themselves to be princes of the universe and masters of their own destiny – they led the Space Marine Legions in glorious conquest of the galaxy, and no enemy of the Imperium could stand against them. However, even amongst this legendary brotherhood, the seeds of dissent had been sown long before the treacherous Warmaster Horus declared his grand heresy.

About the book

Gathered within this anthology are four novellas focusing on some of the mightiest warriors and leaders that mankind has ever known – Fulgrim, Lion El’Johnson, Ferrus Manus and Konrad Curze – and the roles that they may have yet to play in a war which threatens to change the face of the Imperium forever.

Forgeworld New Releases - Dark Eldar Tantalus

New from Forgeworld:

The Dark Eldar Tantalus

First crafted, so it is said, for the Archon Surasis Grief of the Kabal of the Dark Mirror, the Dark Eldar Tantalus is an assault skimmer, somewhat larger and more complex in design than the Raider, and accordingly better armed. Its distinctive twin-hulled design houses powerful engine-reactors slaved to enhanced drives and its unique scythevane armament.

One of the largest Dark Eldar vehicles yet encountered by the Imperial war machine, the cruel reavers who crew this sleek engine of destruction take delight in mounting high-speed attacks, slicing through the hulls of enemy vehicles and rending infantry into crimson shreds, heralded by the screech of the molecular dissonance fields of its scythevanes and the rapid fire of its pulse-disintegrator armament.

The Tantalus, designed by Daren Parrwood, is a detailed full resin kit that includes a set of etched brass deck panels. Measuring nearly 11” from prow to stern, this twin-hulled vehicle is a great addition to any Dark Eldar army. With its full rules contained within Imperial Armour Apocalypse Second Edition.

Buying Bitz - the options

OK, so you need bitz for your  models, where do you go? Well, eBay is always your source.  And check out the various options.  Also, if you need a lot of a bit, lots of these sellers have multiples and will cut you a deal.

I recently wanted 8 Grey Knight Terminator Apothecary bitz for my Crimson Templars.  The only guy who had enough offered on But It Now wanted a ridiculous $ 11.99 each!  I used the "Submit an Offer" option and I offered him $ 8, which he declined.  Well, two weeks later, he hasn't sold them and has lowered his price to $ 7.99 and so I got what I wanted at the price I wanted.  So be patient.

The players:

Hoard O-Bitz is the leader in this space.  There website SUCKS.  But on eBay they are the king.

1287 40K Bitz  (687 BIN and 600 at auction)

1170 Fantasy Bitz  (571 BIN and 599 at auction)

Red Dragon Games is all on eBay.   In inventory on eBay they have:

735 40K Bitz
411 Fantasy Bitz

Blackdagger Games is all eBay as well.  In inventory on eBay they have:

2,141 40K Bitz
614 Fantasy Bitz

TheWarStore is the big dog in online gaming retail, and they bought Battlewagon bitz a couple of years ago.  Battlewagon pioneered bitz sales.  I am not a huge fan of The War Store's website.  But it works and they are reliable.

Thanks to the guys on the Apocalypse40K forum for suggesting this subject!

Kromlech, Max Mini release new accessories

Two new additions to established accesory brand lines have been released.  I love both these companies and they keep putting out great stuff.

First is Kromlech, which does amazing Orc conversion bitz and recently the Space Marine Samurai heads.  Now they have what they call "Chem Trooper" heads which are perfect for your Steel Legion/Death Korp conversions.
Next is an awesome "Tesla Cannon" from Max Mini

This is an amazing looking gun.  I would love to see some troopers carrying these!  They would make good substitutes for plasma weaponry.

Norway is back for The BIg Game II

So two Americans walk into Warhammer World...

Yeah, it sounds like the beginning of a joke. But last November I was walking around the Throne of Skulls tournament at Warhammer World lin Nottingham, checking out the armies, and I start chatting with an IG player. he asks me if I am playing and I say no, I only play Apocalypse these days. I tell him I play in LA at the Battle Bunker and he asks me if I know about this forum called Apocalypse40K.com! Well, I tell him that's me and we have a good laugh.

Anyway, his name is Alex (yeah...funny) and he is BlueRonin on the Apocalypse40K Forum. He had been lurking as a guest and so he registered as we were drinking a beer at Bugman's!

Turns out he is an American living in Norway and was at Warhammer World with 3 buddies and so we all hung out all weekend and they decide to host a Apocalypse battle for the Big Game!

Well, their game went great and now they are back for The Big Game II and now there are 25 Super Heavies in their game!  Quite a leap from the half dozen or so last year.

If you want to host a game that is part of the World Wide "The BIg Game II: The Big Game Strikes Back", send me an email at alec@propworx.com.

Eldar vs. The Imperium Battle Report - Part II

Well, it is taking a bit longer than to get the video battle report up, but I will have it up in a day or two.  In the mean time, here are a few more photos and a bit more detail on what happened.

This was the main Imperial Artillery Park on Table # 3.  Table # 2 had about 50% of this as well.  Mostly Manticores (12) and Basilisks.  The enemy targeted the Basilsks, which was a mistake.  Manticores are much more deadly to Titans.

This green patch had trees, and so granted a 4+ cover save.  Of course everything had camo netting!  While not WYSIWYG, we have a rule that as long as ALL vehicles have the exact same upgrades, you don't need to model them.  Enclosed crew compartment does have to be modeled because that is a fairly important one visually.  The idea is that the opponent should always know what he is dealing with.

The green Stormlord had Lord Castellan's Supreme Command and so gave tank hunters to all units within 24".

Table 1 Turn 1  The Warlord dominates the table, and has a Vortex Missile launcher underneath it.

Table # 1 was hotly contested and had the most infantry units.  There used to be a Reaver where that big hole is.  It was taken down to one Structure point on Turn 1 and then eliminated on Turn 2.  On Turn 2, a group of Wraithlords Flank Marched and were engaged by Marines and IG.  In fact the IG held their ground after being almost wiped out so the Wraithlords couldn't assault the Warlord!  They were then wiped out in Turn 3.

Dark Eldar Deep Striked very effectively, but their fragile raiders got whacked in turn 3.  The Eldar countered the Imperial Navy with their ridiculously effective Nightwings, which are almost impossible to shoot down with TWO saves!

The ELdar fielded THREE Phantom Titans!  But after blasting away on turn 1, they were neutralized by the Imperium at the bottom of Turn 1, having their weapons shot off or stunned for the most part.

At the far end of the Eldar table was a nice Armorcst Phantom Titan.  They actually hold up well in the game looks-wise.  They are a bit smaller, but not out of place.

Well, the complete run-down will be on video shortly!
